As someone who has spent countless hours immersed in the fantastical worlds of video games throughout my life, I can confidently say that the upcoming episodes of “Secret Level” have me thoroughly excited! Having grown up playing classics like Pac-Man and Unreal Tournament, it’s truly fascinating to see these universes reimagined through this innovative anthology series.
Amazon’s Prime Video has announced the air date and episode breakdown for the forthcoming installments of the first season of “Secret Level“. Hailing from the minds behind “Love, Death + Robots“, this innovative anthology series reimagines 15 distinct video games by crafting unique tales within their respective universes or featuring their characters. Rather than following the conventional practice of making all episodes available simultaneously, the creators of “Secret Level” have opted to release the 15-episode series in two separate batches, presumably with the aim of generating interest and momentum before unveiling the remaining episodes.
From December 10th, episodes 1 to 8 were unveiled, featuring stories inspired by well-known video games such as Dungeons & Dragons, Sifu, New World, Warhammer 40,000, and Armored Core. These self-contained tales span between 10 and 20 minutes in length, keeping each episode concise yet satisfying. Boasting a powerhouse voice cast consisting of Arnold Schwarzenegger, Keanu Reeves, Kevin Hart, Temuera Morrison, and Gabriel Luna, this video game-themed anthology series has left a mark on its audience.
Various episodes in Part 1 feature twists on popular games such as Unreal Tournament and Crossfire. Some of these episodes have sparked debate among fans of the original content, such as the surprising, intense, and action-packed take on Pac-Man presented in Episode 6. Overall, responses to the series have been mixed, but it currently boasts a 64% rating on Rotten Tomatoes, indicating that the reaction has been more favorable than unfavorable.
‘Secret Level’ Part 2 Release Date Confirmed
Amazon has revealed that the second part of Secret Level, consisting of episodes 9 to 15, will drop on December 17th. This segment is set to feature a significant portion of Sony’s iconic PlayStation games, with potential cameos from popular characters like Kratos from God of War and Jin from Ghost of Tsushima.
In the upcoming episode releases, there’s something for every gaming style: firstly, “The Outer Worlds”, then “Mega Man”, followed by “Exodus”, “Spelunky”, “Concord”. A special episode called “PlayStation” is also on the way, which might showcase “God of War” and “Ghost of Tsushima”. Lastly, don’t forget about “Honor of Kings”. This daring lineup aims to offer fans a fresh perspective on their beloved gaming universes.
Previously, during an interview with Collider, the producers of ‘Secret Level’, Tim Willer and Dave Wilson, disclosed that dividing the series into two parts follows industry norms and generates excitement among fans by creating anticipation between releases, thus potentially attracting new viewers. With numerous compelling video games waiting to be brought to life on screen, discussions about potential storylines for Season 2 are already underway. The enthusiasm from fans suggests that the series could run indefinitely, as they eagerly await their favorite games to be adapted.
