As a fortunate soul who had the privilege to share both camaraderie and the finest spirits with the legendary Raj Kapoor, I can attest that his story is as captivating as his cinematic masterpieces. His unparalleled dedication to his craft, evidenced by his abstention from alcohol during the post-production stages of his films, is a testament to his passion for filmmaking and his commitment to delivering perfection.
Raj Kapoor was one of the most successful actors and filmmakers in Bollywood, with a career spanning over five decades. Recently, film producer Boney Kapoor recalled how the veteran actor used to share his most expensive alcohol with him as they shared a great camaraderie. Moreover, Boney revealed that Raj Kapoor used to quit drinking during the post-production stages of his films till the final copy was made.
Boney Kapoor, the film producer behind movies such as Wanted starring Salman Khan and No Entry, recently opened up in an interview with SCREEN about his heartfelt relationship with Raj Kapoor.
The movie maker observed the time when the actor’s cherished production, named “Mera Naam Joker,” initially didn’t captivate audiences upon its premiere. However, over time, it eventually gained popularity.
Speaking about a time when the movie didn’t perform well, Boney mentioned that during the post-production phase of Raj Kapoor’s films, he adopted a policy of abstaining from alcohol. In this instance, after the film’s underperformance, Raj Kapoor followed this rule and gave up drinking while re-editing the movie.
This individual, who had a strong affection for drinking, would abstain whenever the movie was nearing completion. He would avoid alcohol throughout this phase until the final copy was ready. During the entire post-production stage, he revealed, he would refrain from consuming alcohol.
Nevertheless, the decision to indulge in filmmaking was solely the actor’s from the Sangam era, driven by a deep-seated passion. Notwithstanding this, Raj Kapoor displayed an openhearted disposition and willingly shared his finest liquor with Boney. In fact, Boney claimed, “I was fortunate to be the recipient of his most costly drinks, hence I have a clear understanding of this matter.
The producer of The Wanted expressed that Raj Kapoor meant much more than just a mentor to him; they shared a deep relationship. Sadly, he didn’t have the heart to see his idol in the Intensive Care Unit before Kapoor’s unfortunate demise.
As a lifestyle connoisseur, I recently had the privilege of attending the centenary celebration for the illustrious Raj Kapoor in Mumbai, an event orchestrated by the esteemed Kapoor family. To honor this momentous occasion, a series of events were held nationwide, with 10 iconic films of the legendary actor being screened across 40 cities at 135 screens.
