Berlin: New Films From Ira Sachs, Denis Cote Set for Panorama Lineup

As a film enthusiast with a penchant for international cinema, I am thrilled to witness the diverse lineup of the 2025 Berlin Film Festival’s Panorama section. The list is a melting pot of talents, stories, and genres that promise an enriching cinematic experience.

For the 2025 edition of the Berlin Film Festival’s primary section, the Panorama, they have announced the initial dozen films selected. Notably, some well-known names appear among them.

At the Berlinale, Ira Sachs, a frequent attendee, will bring “Peter Hujar’s Day,” featuring Ben Wishaw and Rebecca Hall. This film is inspired by a 1974 conversation between photographer Hujar and his friend Linda Rosenkrantz, providing a glimpse into New York’s art world. Meanwhile, Denis Côté, another Berlinale alum from Canada, will return to Panorama with “Paul,” a documentary about a cleaner who uses his job, sharing his routines on social media, as a means to fight depression and anxiety.

Titles announced for Panorama this week also include Emilie Blichfeldt’s Danish horror film titled “The Ugly Stepsister (Den stygge stesøsteren)“, a chilling reinterpretation of a classic fairy tale, set to debut at Sundance. Frelle Petersen’s “Hjem kaere hjem” is another addition, a social realist drama focusing on the life of an elderly caregiver. Lastly, there’s Shatara Michelle Ford’s “Dreams in Nightmares“, a compelling story about three Black queer women embarking on a road trip across the United States.

Berlin will announce the full Panorama lineup in early January.
