As a long-time fan of both the Harry Potter books and movies, I found it quite amusing to stumble upon this little-known tidbit about Robert Pattinson and Emma Watson. It’s fascinating to see these two stars, who are now globally recognized names, in such an early stage of their careers.
As a die-hard film fan, I always believed the Harry Potter films catapulted Daniel Radcliffe, Rupert Grint, and Emma Watson into stardom, making them familiar names in every household. However, it seems that even four movies deep into the series, not everyone recognized Emma Watson’s name – including her co-star, Robert Pattinson.
In the years before Robert Pattinson became widely recognized for his role in Twilight, he played Cedric Diggory in the movie version of Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire. This was one of his first significant roles, and an old video that has recently become popular on Instagram reveals that Pattinson couldn’t recall Emma Watson’s name at the time. The video’s accompanying post implies that Pattinson might be teasing Emma Watson, suggesting he may indeed recognize her, but she doesn’t seem to be part of the joke if that’s true. It’s also plausible that Pattinson genuinely forgets her name. At that time, Watson had only appeared in three Harry Potter films, so it’s not unreasonable to assume that if Pattinson hadn’t watched them, he might not recognize her from the series, given not everyone is a fan of Harry Potter.
In the same vein, she’s one of the prominent actors in the film you’re working with, Mr. Pattinson. Given her youth, it might be worth your while to familiarize yourself with her name. With the vast ensemble cast of Harry Potter, I can understand that Pattinson must have encountered numerous new faces on set, and let’s face it, I often struggle to recall names from my wife’s company’s Christmas party, but I made sure to remember the boss’ name.
It’s astonishing to look back at images of Emma Watson and Robert Pattinson, both now renowned film stars, from years ago when they were not yet well-known. Even though Pattinson may not have known Watson personally during that time, he would soon become familiar with her fame. Similarly, after starring in his own series of films based on popular books, the world would come to know Pattinson just as well as they did Daniel Radcliffe. Considering this, Pattinson and Radcliffe shared several similarities in their paths to stardom.
In a way that’s fair, it’s not as though Robert Pattinson hasn’t had some personal, perhaps slightly awkward, moments of not getting the proper recognition. While it seems nobody has forgotten his name, there are those who might not know he didn’t retire from acting after Twilight, even though he is now the latest Batman on the big screen. Perhaps once he completes his Batman trilogy, people will stop assuming he’s no longer acting.
