Arjun Kapoor reveals his parents' separation affected his academic performance; 'I was very good student until...'

As an ardent fan of Arjun Kapoor, I find his journey incredibly inspiring. His ability to openly discuss his mental health struggles and the impact of personal events on his life is truly commendable. It’s heartbreaking to hear about how his parents’ separation affected him so profoundly, but it’s also fascinating to see how he turned adversity into opportunity.

Arjun Kapoor openly talks about his struggles with mental health, emotional fragility, and how pivotal incidents in his life have left their mark on him. Most recently, the actor revealed that his academic prowess at school took a hit after his parents’ divorce.

In an interview with Mashable India, Arjun Kapoor reminisced about his past academic achievements, sharing that he used to be a strong student. Yet, the emotional impact of his parents’ separation significantly altered his life trajectory, causing a noticeable drop in his academic performance.

He said, ‘I was a very good student until my parents’ separation. Psychologically, it affected me,”

Kapoor’s father, Boney (a film producer), proposed the idea of taking a break, which Arjun found appealing. As a result, following the completion of his 10th grade, the actor chose to focus on films as an escape from studies and to deal with the lingering thoughts in his mind.

By chance, during his summer break, he started helping out with his father’s job. Afterward, he took on the role of assistant director for the renowned movie Kal Ho Naa Ho.

However, Mona Shourie, his mother, wasn’t pleased when he decided to abandon his college studies for filmmaking. Despite her apprehensions, the actor from Gunday persisted with his ambition and acknowledged that he was fortunate enough to have the opportunity to take a break at that time, which significantly influenced his professional path.

Yet, upon choosing to pursue his education further at college, Arjun found himself battling self-doubt due to his excessive weight. He often felt uncomfortable and self-conscious, not just then, but also among other students. Moreover, he was compelled to wear clothes that were too large for him, which accentuated his feelings of being an outcast within the student body.

He arrived at college wearing baggy clothes, shorts, and carrying a school bag. He missed quite a few classes and even failed accounting, but excelled in other subjects. Despite these challenges, the actor put in a lot of effort, eventually making a successful debut in Bollywood’s Ishaqzaade alongside Parineeti Chopra. Today, he is one of the leading actors in the film industry.

In terms of his career, Arjun Kapoor recently reappeared on screen as the villain “Danger Lanka” in Rohit Shetty’s film Singham Again, marking a return after a hiatus from acting. Coming up next for him is No Entry 2, where he will share the screen with Varun Dhawan and Diljit Dosanjh.
