As a seasoned urban explorer who has traversed the concrete jungles of Hong Kong, New York, and Tokyo, I must say that Holthinrichs Watches‘ latest collaboration with The Horology Club on the “Concrete Jungle” limited edition timepiece truly resonates with my adventurous spirit. The dial, inspired by Hong Kong’s iconic skyline, is a testament to the city that never sleeps, and its lume-infused concrete design is not only unique but also incredibly functional for those late-night escapades.
Holthinrichs Watches, an up-and-coming watch brand from the Netherlands, has teamed up with The Horology Club (THC) to reveal their first joint timepiece. This collaboration merges Holthinrichs’ innovative and Brutalist design philosophy in horology with THC’s modern allure and collector-centric views, resulting in a unique watch – the Signature Ornament “Concrete Jungle” limited edition.
The design is influenced by THC’s origins, drawing inspiration from the bustling metropolis of Hong Kong, often referred to as its “concrete jungle.” Its renowned skyline and vibrant urban atmosphere are mirrored in the dial, which is distinguished by luminescent concrete – a first in watchmaking. This innovative material not only ensures readability in the dark but also symbolizes Hong Kong’s status as a city that never rests.
In the ancient Chinese script known as Oracle Bone Script, the numbers are embellished. These numbers were carefully crafted through an intricate molding technique and seem etched onto something solid, contributing to their distinct charm.
Holthinrichs’ contemporary design philosophy, Horlogerie Brut, is reminiscent of Le Corbusier’s Béton Brut and is apparent in its use of strong textural differences, authentic material choices, and a rugged, industrial-inspired appearance stemming from the manufacturing process. This watch showcases the watchmaker’s unique RAW case-finishing technique, creating an aesthetic that blends the antiquity of the past with modern flair.
The distinctive design piece, “Concrete Jungle,” boasts a 38.5mm case diameter, constructed from top-tier Grade 5 titanium. It operates on a refined Sellita SW-300 caliber mechanism. The owners are presented with two distinct case styles: the Elegant Signature Ornament Case, characterized by polished, brushed, and textured finishes, or the Innovative Signature LAB Case, skillfully produced using advanced 3D printing techniques and displaying elaborate details such as skeleton lugs.
Starting December 20, the unique ornament “Concrete Jungle” from our Signature line is being introduced in a restricted edition of 50 pieces, housed within the LAB series case. Meanwhile, the Ornament case itself will only be accessible for a limited period. Once you place a successful order, expect delivery by April 2025.
