What Other Easter Eggs are There in the ATLA x Overwatch 2 Collab?

As a gamer with a heart full of nostalgia, I must admit that Blizzard has truly outdone themselves this time! The Overwatch 2 x Avatar: The Last Airbender collaboration is an absolute masterpiece for us old-school ATLA fans. From the voice lines to the Easter eggs, it’s like stepping back into the world of Ba Sing Se or the Fire Nation all over again.

This month, Marvel Rivals is certainly grabbing attention, but there’s also a buzz building up around the recently released collaboration between Overwatch 2 and Avatar: The Last Airbender.

Fresh off the press! Blizzard recently unveiled a gameplay clip featuring the latest costumes, brimming with even more Avatar: The Last Airbender (ATLA) references for enthusiasts to discover.

Overwatch 2 x Avatar: The Last Airbender

In the newly released teaser for the Avatar: The Last Airbender special, several delightful Easter Eggs and familiar dialogue lines from devoted ATLA fans are subtly included. Here’s a peek:

Many phrases heard in the trailer are actually taken from the original series, such as Zenyatta or Aang stating, “It can be simple not to act. It can be difficult to forgive,” and Venture Toph exclaiming, “Alright, let’s bend a few rules!

They even brought in some meme lines like Genji/Zuko saying, “That’s rough, buddy.” For context, this was the line that Zuko came up with when Sokka was opening up about how his girlfriend turned into the moon (literally), and Zuko had nothing else to say but, “That’s rough, buddy.”

The trailer offers a glimpse of some intro sequences inspired by Avatar: The Last Airbender, such as Zenyatta/Aang on a hoverboard and Venture demonstrating Earthbending abilities. With fans eagerly awaiting Venture-themed cosmetics, it’s delightful to see the Avatar event is now providing them with some long-awaited attention.

Free Mei/Katara Skin

In the Avatar: The Last Airbender package at the store, you’ll find a variety of skins. However, there are additional items that fans can obtain for free during this event. For instance, the Mei/Katara skin is one such item that doesn’t cost anything, and you can get it by accomplishing several challenges within the game.

In addition to the complimentary Mei Skin, fans can additionally acquire other character-themed cosmetics, such as charms, stickers, through gameplay. Furthermore, there are distinctive voice lines for specific characters, like Venture/Toph’s exclamation, “Let’s bend some rules!”.

To be honest, the Mei/Katara character model doesn’t undergo significant alteration compared to others, as Mei wears a blue parka as her standard attire. The primary visual difference lies in the ‘hair accessories’ that Katara sports.

Not Going Down without a Fight

The launch of Marvel Rivals has led some fans to refer to it as a potential “Overwatch competitor” online, but Blizzard continues to work on their hero shooter. Despite this, it’s worth noting that Blizzard has been involved in game development for much longer, and even so, Marvel Rivals is facing criticisms similar to those faced by early Overwatch, such as the absence of a role queue system and unbalanced heroes.

As a gamer, I can’t help but wonder how Marvel Rivals will fare over the coming months. Sure, it boasts some truly iconic characters, but let’s face it, Overwatch’s recent collaboration has definitely managed to lure fans back into the arena – at least for now, during this winter season.

Hopefully, they’ll collaborate on a new project involving “The Legend of Korra” or perhaps a future series that’s yet to be released.

The joint Overwatch and Avatar: The Last Airbender event is now active, and you can participate in it until December 30th.
