Glen Powell Erotic Thriller ‘Homewreckers’ Lands at Legendary After Bidding War (Exclusive)

As a seasoned gamer who’s seen more than a few Hollywood blockbusters come and go, I must say, the news about Glen Powell‘s latest venture, “Homewreckers”, has me pretty pumped! The guy’s been on fire lately, from his breakout role in “Anyone But You” to the box office sensation “Twisters”. Now, he’s diving into the thrilling world of erotic sci-fi with this project.

In a fierce competition among bidders, Legendary clinched the deal for the intriguing project, titled Homewreckers – an erotic thriller infused with a touch of science fiction, featuring Glen Powell as both the lead actor and producer.

The package contains a previously undisclosed three-part tale penned by Neil M. Paik himself, who is also responsible for writing the screenplay.

This transaction signifies the final significant acquisition of the year, taking place mere days before the entertainment industry traditionally takes a holiday break. It’s quite a spectacle, reminiscent of something straight from Santa’s production line. Reportedly, the deal entails an upfront payment in the millions for the rights to the story and another seven-figure agreement for Paik to script the screenplay. Moreover, Paik is also set to produce the project.

Renowned for its blockbuster films like “Godzilla vs Kong” and the “Enola Holmes” series, Legendary Studios emerged victorious in the pursuit of the highly sought-after “Homewreckers” project, outbidding competitors such as Lionsgate, New Regency, Sony Pictures, and Warner Bros. The bidding war began last week with a starting bid in the six figures, escalating from there. In the end, it was a tight race between Legendary and Lionsgate, according to industry insiders.

The specifics are being held close, but it’s rumored that the style will be akin to Adrian Lyne, known for his steamy thrillers like “9½ Weeks” and “Fatal Attraction”, and Alex Garland, whose films such as “Ex Machina” and “Civil War” reflect contemporary apprehensions.

Paik frequently transforms his short stories into sought-after productions. One of these, titled “Reawakening,” was established as a series on Amazon with Lena Waithe serving as executive producer, following a bidding war among various studios. Another short story, called “Rainbowfish,” has been set up at Warner Bros.

The deal serves as an delightful Christmas gift for Powell, who concludes a remarkable year with a renewed confirmation of his rising stardom. It was nearly a year ago to the day when he was catapulted into stardom with the release of Anyone But You, his comedy co-starring Sydney Sweeney. The film premiered on December 22, 2023, and quickly became a box office hit. He then went on to create and produce the romantic comedy thriller Hit Man, which has just landed him his inaugural Golden Globe nomination.

In the summer, I watched “Twisters,” Universal’s highly praised remake of the 90s tornado movie, which raked in an impressive $370 million globally, with over $267 million from domestic audiences alone. The actor was often recognized as one of the trailblazers of a new generation of Hollywood stars and a revitalization of the cinematic experience on the big screen.

Powell is repped by CAA and Johnson Shapiro. Paik is repped by Untitled Entertainment.
