As a devoted admirer of Eddie Redmayne‘s exceptional acting skills, I can hardly contain my excitement about his return as The Jackal for season two! Having followed Redmayne’s career since his days at Cambridge, it’s fascinating to witness his transformation into such intriguing characters.
Eddie Redmayne is set to return as the main character in the second season of “The Day of the Jackal,” a fact that he himself has confirmed.
I truly appreciate your viewing and support of ‘The Day of the Jackal,'” Redmayne expressed in a Sky Instagram post on Thursday. “Just like our protagonist hates unfinished business, we too will wrap things up neatly. See you all soon for season two!
It had not been decided earlier if Lashana Lynch or Redmayne would appear again in the upcoming edition due to the surprise ending of the Peacock’s adaptation being revealed, with the final episode airing on December 12.
As a devoted fan, I’m absolutely thrilled to share that our new favorite thriller series, featuring the exceptional talents of Redmayne and Lynch, has made history! After 26 days, it managed to captivate a whopping 4.5 million U.K. viewers on Sky, making it the most watched debut series – whether scripted or unscripted – ever to grace their screens!
Over on Peacock, our new favorite streaming show made it into the top five original series in the U.S. during its debut weekend, according to some early Nielsen numbers. Just last month, they went ahead and gave the green light for another season of “The Day of the Jackal” over there on NBCUniversal’s streamer and Sky Atlantic.
The television show is inspired by a novel published in 1971, titled “The Day of the Jackal,” written by Frederick Forsyth. This book was previously made into a movie in 1973. The series tells a story about a thrilling game of hide-and-seek between an elusive assassin (played by Redmayne) and a resolute MI6 operative (Lynch), who’s dead set on capturing him.
Oscar winner Redmayne recently told The Hollywood Reporter that he was initially reluctant to join The Day of the Jackal when he was first approached. “I loved the original movie and the Frederick Forsyth book,” he said. “So when the first three scripts arrived in my inbox, there was a level of hesitation because you don’t want to butcher something you love.”
He mentioned, “I’ve only watched a few initial episodes of this show, but it was incredibly captivating and intriguing, leaving me eager to discover more about the characters and their stories.
To put it simply, what clinched his decision was the hint of a surprise ending and the possibility for a second season based on the Jackal’s storyline: “When I agreed to join the series, there was always the hope that the Jackal’s tale would carry on. That’s why I knew there would be a twist.
