As an ardent fan of the enchanting series “Ghosts,” I must admit that the latest twist in Jay’s character development has left me utterly captivated. The season finale, with its festive charm and shocking revelations, was nothing short of a rollercoaster ride for our beloved non-ghost-seeing protagonist.

In the finale of “Ghosts” airing in 2024, there was an exciting and surprising end as our main character, Jay, finally encountered the ghostly residents of his home. Yet, there was a condition – he couldn’t maintain a permanent view of the spirits. Initially, I felt let down by this revelation. But upon further reflection, I found myself appreciating it more since it sets up an amusing dynamic for Season 4, as Jay remains unable to see them clearly.
In summary, Jay encountered ghosts due to a botched possession incident. Just as his parents were about to arrive at the house, their water heater malfunctioned. Trying to repair it, Utkarsh Ambudkar’s character received an electric shock and was propelled back into Pete, while Sam fell into Nancy in the process.
Indeed, just as I foresaw, the Christmas-themed episodes were filled with themes of possession. However, the twist that Pete found himself inside Jay was an unforeseen development. To free Nancy, Sam had to leave the property entirely. On the other hand, matters proved more intricate for Pete and Jay, since – as Pete frequently points out – he’s not confined to the house. Subsequently, the exorcism intended to remove Pete went awry, resulting in the ghost retaining possession of Jay’s body while Jay’s consciousness was ejected from it.
That’s why our favorite non-ghost-seeing human was able to see the ghosts.

As I found myself immersed in the narrative, it was clear that the protagonist, Jay, urgently required to reclaim his physical form. Given this predicament, upon his return, it’s highly likely that his ability to perceive spirits would be compromised.
After Pete exited Jay’s body, the now-zombified Jay was triggered into action, resulting in another relatively harmless electric shock. In essence, this incident marked a transformation for Jay, as he could no longer perceive or interact with spirits.
I’m really excited to observe how this event shapes the remainder of the season. We’ve been on tenterhooks for so long, hoping to witness Jay encountering ghosts. When it finally happened, I thought it would be a permanent transformation. However, it seems that change is only temporary, which makes the ongoing gag about Jay not perceiving spirits even funnier.
Now, he has a clear image in his mind of what they look like, which allows for some amusing descriptions from Utkarsh Ambudkar’s character about their actions. Moreover, given that Utkarsh himself is familiar with the ghostly apparitions, there may be a touch of envy creeping into his portrayal as he realizes the protagonist now shares this unique experience.
Now, there’s no room for speculation as Sam shares messages from the spirits, which invites further discussion from Sam’s husband. I find this intriguing for viewers and believe it will bring a new perspective and richness to the series, given that we’ve grown accustomed to the fact that only Sam can see ghosts while her husband, Jay, cannot.
Now that our young one has a better understanding of their appearance, he’ll likely find it amusing to tease them further. This newfound knowledge might pave the way for more advanced interactions, enabling Jay to engage in a slight form of communication with these spirits.
