Dan Abrams to End Primetime NewsNation Show

As a devoted viewer who has grown accustomed to Dan Abrams‘ insightful and engaging commentary, I must admit, his decision to step down from his primetime program next year comes as a bittersweet surprise. While it’s understandable that a man with such an impressive portfolio of ventures might need to prioritize his businesses, I can’t help but feel a pang of disappointment at the thought of losing him from my nightly news routine.

NewsNation is on the hunt for a fresh face to take over their prime-time 9 p.m. slot, as Dan Abrams has announced his departure from his evening show, scheduled for the early months of next year.

On Thursday, during his broadcast, Dan Abrams made an announcement about his decision – he will be leaving his show, Dan Abrams Live, in February.

Abrams juggles numerous roles within the media industry, acting as the chief legal analyst for ABC News, a satellite radio host, show host and producer for On Patrol Live on Reelz Channel, and the proprietor of a vast digital media conglomerate consisting of Mediaite, Law & Crime Network, and other brands. All these responsibilities are in addition to his daily work on NewsNation program.

You might be aware that in addition to what we’re discussing now, I run a weekend live program titled ‘On Patrol Live’, which focuses on real-time police action. I also host a daily radio show on SiriusXM and serve as the chief legal analyst for ABC News. However, it’s crucial to acknowledge that this show takes up most of my airtime. Regrettably, juggling both this program and managing my businesses throughout the entire week is not feasible, especially when considering expansion.

Three years since an unexpected chance arose, I’ve found myself at a juncture where I can no longer allocate the required time for this production without compromising the development of my existing ventures,” he explained further.

Abrams confirmed that he won’t be hosting shows anymore at NewsNation, but he intends to stay with the network. Further updates about his role are due in February. Meanwhile, it’s predicted that NewsNation will announce his replacement by early next year too.

It’s worth mentioning that Abrams inked a fresh multi-year contract with NewsNation merely a year ago. He was among the anchors instrumental in shaping NewsNation’s new image under the management of television broadcasting giant, Nexstar. Three years back, when Abrams joined the team, Nexstar rebranded it from WGN America. Earlier this year, it officially transitioned to a 24-hour cable news format.

Sean Compton and I swiftly understood that we both saw a gap in the cable market – engaging, intelligent, yet politically neutral news coverage,” Abrams expressed. “We both agreed that every other news channel was essentially advocating for one side or another. As our conversation deepened, the concept of me hosting a nightly show started to take shape.

Earlier this week NewsNation inked Abrams’ lead-in, Chris Cuomo, to a new multi-year deal.
