As a seasoned cinema devotee who has witnessed the evolution of the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) over the past two decades, I find myself intrigued by the latest rumors surrounding the casting of Jean Grey in the upcoming Avengers: Secret Wars. Having grown up with Famke Janssen’s portrayal of the character and more recently Sophie Turner, I must admit a certain apprehension about a newcomer taking on such an iconic role. However, if the reports are true and Millie Bobby Brown is being considered for the part, it would undoubtedly be an exciting addition to the MCU.
The search is underway for fresh actors to portray the upcoming version of a certain character within the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU), and while it seems there might be plans to include both new and veteran stars from the franchise in the epic Avengers: Secret Wars, a fresh name has emerged suggesting one of the potential newcomers could take on the role of Jean Grey. Previously played by Famke Janssen and Sophie Turner, as per a report by Jeff Sneider, the young star who broke out in Stranger Things might be tapped to play the powerful character next.
Naturally, this kind of rumor should be handled as some kind of wayward multiverse variant of the truth until it is confirmed or denied by Marvel Studios. It is likely to be one of many such rumors to come in the near future as the MCU gears up to welcome the X-Men fully into the fold after several hints and flash appearances. However, it is not the first time that the actress has reportedly been on Kevin Feige’s radar, as a report in 2023 suggested she was in line for a big role in the comic book franchise.
Ever since I made my striking debut as Max in the second season of “Stranger Things,” it’s been an exhilarating ride! With appearances in Netflix’s chilling Fear Street trilogy and sharing the screen with the illustrious Brendan Fraser in The Whale, I’ve found myself catapulted into the limelight as one of Hollywood’s most promising and adaptable young talents. Needless to say, Marvel Studios showing interest in me for a significant role isn’t entirely unexpected. Yet, with no official word on the matter, all we can do is hold our breaths and keep our eyes peeled. As much as I dream of embodying Jean Grey someday, for now, I guess it’s just a question of patience and time.
The X-Men Have Been Filtering Into the MCU
As a movie buff, I’ve always admired Marvel Studios for their patient approach to character introductions and plot development. Rushing things, as we saw during Bob Chapek’s tenure as Disney CEO, isn’t necessarily a recipe for success.
2021’s “Black Widow” movie subtly hinted at the possibility that mutants might already exist in the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) through a quick appearance by Ursa Major. Later, in the finale of “Ms. Marvel,” it was disclosed that Kamala Khan carries a mutant gene in her DNA. By the time “The Marvels” premiered towards the end of 2023, the post-credits scene showcased Lashana Lynch as Binary – a variation of the Captain Marvel character Maria Rambeau – and a new CGI version of Beast voiced by Kesley Grammar. Additionally, the popular animated series “X-Men ’97” has also seen great success.
This summer, Deadpool and Wolverine brought several X-Men characters to life on the big screen, including Hugh Jackman’s reprisal of Logan, accompanied by seldom-seen characters like Sabertooth, Toad, and Pyro. Most of these characters were seen in The Void – a junkyard situated between universes, first introduced in Loki. Given that the X-Men’s arrival seems imminent, it’s no wonder considering the multiverse portal is set to close within a few years. We’ll find out more when Avengers: Secret Wars unfolds in 2027, so for now, let the speculation continue.
