'Superman' New Look Shows off David Corenswet as Clark Kent & the Man of Steel

As a lifelong cinema devotee who’s seen more Superman reboots than I can count on one hand, I must say that the new trailer for James Gunn’s Superman has left me absolutely smitten. The transformation of David Corenswet from Clark Kent to the Man of Steel is nothing short of spectacular. It’s a refreshing return to the traditional take on the character, where even the slightest details like hairstyle and posture make all the difference in disguising one identity from another.

The first
trailer has now landed and gives us our first official look at
as both Clark Kent and the Man of Steel. Because, spoiler alert, the mild-mannered reporter and Earth’s greatest hero are one and the same. Following the first footage, a brief clip has now emerged showing off how the Pearl and Hollywood star will portray the two sides of the DC icon, and it looks like both he and James Gunn have nailed making them look like two different people.

In the world of comic book adaptations, there’s been a consistent attempt to depict Clark Kent’s struggle to hide his true identity, with actors like Christopher Reeve, Brandon Routh, and Tyler Hoechlin from Superman & Lois using both their physical appearance and behavioral nuances to clearly distinguish between the two personas. However, Zack Snyder and Henry Cavill’s portrayal faced some backlash as Clark and Superman appeared strikingly similar, with the only difference being that one wears glasses.

In James Gunn’s Superman, it seems we’re going back to the classic interpretation. Corenswet meticulously alters everything from his hairstyle to his posture, all in an effort to keep viewers guessing that Clark Kent is actually Superman and to make them fully buy into this disguise.

David Corenswet Reveals What It Was Like When People Saw Him as Superman for the First Time

Apart from recently released snippets of David Corenswet as Clark Kent and Superman (thanks to Discussing Film), the actor has also shared insights about his experience donning the famous red, blue, and yellow suit and the impact it had when people initially saw him in it. In an interview with Collider, Corenswet showcases yet again his keen grasp of what makes Superman so endearing and why he is a fitting choice for the part.

For the very first time, others witnessed me wearing a suit. It was similar to getting a fantastic haircut, only to forget about it, but then having people constantly commenting, “Wow, you look amazing today!” When I stepped onto the set, it was as if I was revealing Superman to people for the first time, allowing me to experience others discovering Superman.

Instead of feeling like Superman myself, I was in awe watching my fellow cast members and the talented crew as they worked on this extraordinary, groundbreaking media project. Seeing their reactions when they first viewed or witnessed Superman fly for the first time was truly special. While I didn’t get to be the one experiencing it directly, simply being able to observe their reactions made it all worthwhile.

The first film from DC Studios to be released in cinemas worldwide this summer, showcased by Warner Bros. Pictures, is none other than “Superman”. True to form, this iconic character tackles the original superhero in a fresh interpretation of the DC universe. By combining grand action sequences, humor, and emotional depth, it presents a Superman who’s guided by compassion and an unwavering faith in human goodness.
