As a veteran wrestling journalist who’s seen more than a few comebacks from the grave (or at least the sidelines), I can’t help but feel a twinge of hope when Big E shares his health updates. He may not be medically cleared yet, but he sounds as spry and resilient as ever.
In the world of wrestling, performers often have to cope with injuries while performing, and sometimes, a major accident can significantly alter their career paths for good. This has been true for Big E, who suffered a neck fracture during a match shortly after winning the WWE championship many months ago. More recently, it appears his in-ring clash with former companions, The New Day, hints at a possible comeback soon. Now, we have some insight into his current health status.
In a recent interview with The Mike Broomhead Show prior to his appearance at The Fiesta Bowl, Big E, who now focuses on commentary and brand ambassadorship for the WWE, discussed various topics including college football and his role as a wrestling organization’s ambassador. However, host Mike Broomhead couldn’t help but bring up the obvious question about Big E’s availability for future WWE events. Here’s what Big E shared regarding his current health status:
Two and a half years ago, I sustained a fracture in three areas on my neck, including my C1 vertebrae in two spots. I’m yet to receive the all-clear from doctors. Fortunately, I’ve been experiencing excellent health with no complications whatsoever. No surgeries were required for me. Instead, I wore a hard collar for a period of three months. There are significant risks involved. Unfortunately, during a wrestling move called a suplex, things went awry, and I’ve been off work ever since. Despite this, I’m incredibly thankful for my current condition – no pain, discomfort, or problems to speak of.
It’s terrific to learn that Big E seems to be okay after his injury, though it’s uncertain if he’ll get back into the ring. He himself states that he hasn’t received clearance yet, suggesting he might still be far from making a comeback. As a veteran in reporting pro wrestling news, I must admit I have my doubts.
Over the years, there was widespread belief that Edge would never step back into the ring following his severe neck injury. Yet, surprisingly, he has been celebrating a 25-year career milestone amid his remarkable comeback trail. Similarly, Daniel Bryan announced his retirement from professional wrestling in 2016; however, this year marked his final full-time match in AEW, hinting that some wrestlers thought to be finished may return unexpectedly.
More On The WWE

This weekend’s prime predictions cover the Main Event with Cody Rhodes, Gunther, and a sprinkle of ’80s nostalgia!
Essentially, even though Big E hasn’t received medical clearance yet, his assertion that he’s healthy boosts my belief that he could make a wrestling ring return soon. Keep in mind, who among professional wrestlers wouldn’t be eager to participate in the first Monday Night Raw available on Netflix, especially given the possibility of being part of what could be the most exhilarating era for pro wrestling in several decades?
In addition, it’s not usual for professional wrestlers to make their comebacks known through podcasts or the media. Instead, whispers of a return often surface in reports and gossip columns. We then need to pay close attention to hints on Monday Night Raw and SmackDown episodes, as these are our best indicators. If we’re curious about when Big E might return, we should watch for those signs, as they provide us with more information than any other source.
Based on everything discussed, I believe that a positive health report is a promising indication he’s making progress, despite him not explicitly saying so himself.
On USA Network, there are only a few more episodes left of Monday Night Raw before it migrates to Netflix as part of the 2025 television lineup. So, don’t miss out by tuning in every Monday at 8:00 p.m. ET. I’ll be keeping a keen eye on developments involving The New Day and any hints about Big E’s potential comeback.
