Tango Gameworks To Consider Various Opportunities Before Committing To Hi-Fi Rush’s Sequel

As a gamer who’s been around for quite some years now, I can confidently say that Hi-Fi Rush has truly revolutionized the rhythm-action genre for me. It’s like discovering a new beat, one that syncs perfectly with my heart and keeps me moving. I remember the days when this genre was just a faint melody in the background, but Hi-Fi Rush brought it to the forefront, making me dance to its rhythm.

Story Highlights

  • Hi-Fi Rush is a rhythm action game that surprise-launched to fantastic critical acclaim in early 2023.
  • The maker of the game, Tango Gameworks, says that it wants to cherish the IP.
  • Before it can proceed with making a sequel of the game, it wants to consider all available options.

The game is highly appreciated when it receives an overwhelming number of favorable, excessive reviews following news of its developer studio’s closure. In May 2024, Hi-Fi Rush creator Tango Gameworks was closed down by Microsoft, causing a significant ripple effect throughout the industry. However, within just a few months, Krafton Inc., a major South Korean gaming company, reopened the studio and acquired the rights to the game’s license as well.

Presently, Colin Mack, leader of Tango Gameworks, is seriously pondering over the potential next steps regarding the Hi-Fi Rush IP. During a recent interview with IGN, both Colin Mack and game director John Johanas shared their current strategies, expressing their affection for the franchise and outlining their intentions to shape its future.

We are considering a sequel positively. We are not yet at the stage where we can say specifically, ‘This is what we’re going to do.’”

John Johanas explained that many team members are deeply fond of Hi-Fi Rush, which gives us multiple avenues to explore. At present, we’re deliberating over numerous possibilities.

As project manager Kazuaki Egashira expresses, “the development team has a deep affection for Hi-Fi Rush,” and this affection extends not just to the game itself but also to its characters and world. However, it’s crucial to continue exploring fresh ideas to prevent creativity exhaustion in the realm of game creation.

In their own words, Egashira expressed that while Hi-Fi Rush has gained popularity as a fresh IP, it’s important for it not to remain static to avoid becoming outdated. He suggests that Tango Gameworks thrives on embracing new challenges. Furthermore, he expresses his desire to maintain an approach that prioritizes developers and their passion.

Not only is it obvious, but I must admit that I hadn’t anticipated just how enjoyable rhythm-action games could be. Thanks to the game, I’ve had the opportunity to explore more titles in this genre, including the hugely popular Beat Slayer. Without a doubt, Hi-Fi Rush ranks among Tango’s finest creations, an opinion shared by at least two million others, I would guess.
