Harrison Ford Revealed The Project He's Felt The Most 'Comfortable' And 'Confident' Working On, And It Makes So Much Sense

As a cinephile who’s been around the block a few times, I can confidently say that Harrison Ford‘s choice to join the cast of “Shrinking” is nothing short of remarkable. With a career spanning nearly seven decades and countless iconic roles under his belt, it’s rare to see an actor find such comfort and confidence in a project as he has with this Apple TV+ series.

Harrison Ford has amassed more than 80 roles across almost seven decades, but there are certain projects he feels incredibly “at ease” and “self-assured” about. Moreover, several of his films will undoubtedly be engraved in our memories for a long time. Yet, the actor has expressed that he’s never felt as comfortable or confident as he does while working on one specific project – a series titled “Shrinking“. And trust me, it’s easy to understand why this show holds such significance for him.

Upon Ford’s addition to the “Shrinking” ensemble, there was quite a buzz surrounding his transition to television roles, since prior to joining the cast as the therapist Paul in the exceptional Apple TV+ series, he hadn’t held a regular spot on any television show before.

Nevertheless, it’s apparent that there’s a significant motivation driving him to repeatedly return to the show “Shrinking,” now in its second season as per the 2024 TV schedule. During a discussion at The Paley Center, Brett Goldstein recounted the story of how they brought on the “Star Wars” actor, and Ford didn’t just narrate the circumstances leading to his agreement for the comedy role. Instead, he articulated the high regard he holds for the experience, expressing why it meant so much to him by stating:

For quite some time now, I’ve been immersed in this endeavor. Frankly, I never foresaw myself here, but my passion for it has become undeniable. Expressing my love for it is different from expressing its value as an enriching experience to me. As a creative individual, I must confess that I’ve never felt more at ease, nor have I ever been more confident in the environment I find myself and the self-assurance I acquire – we all seem to draw strength from the work we undertake and our collective journey together.

Across the entire discussion, the cast – consisting of Jason Segel, Jessica Williams, Christa Miller, Brett Goldstein among others – shared insights about their camaraderie and the fact that they genuinely enjoy being part of the show. This positive vibe clearly carries over into the series as well, and learning that they all have a deep affection for their work makes this project even more appealing. It also gives additional reasons why Ford enjoys working on the show so much.

Notably, the narrative they’re developing revolves around therapists who are mutually assisting their clients, themselves, and one another. Given this context, the production of this show involves a great deal of “emotional workout,” which Ford described as “redemptive.” It is evident that he deeply enjoys portraying Paul, as he stated himself.

At work, we encounter a great deal of emotional growth, which is truly rewarding. It serves as an excellent platform to hone your empathy skills and witness aspects of humanity unfold that you may not have encountered before. This discovery adds a unique dimension to our jobs, making each day exciting. Essentially, we get to live multiple lives, and I must say, it’s a privilege. Thank you for this opportunity.

As a film enthusiast, I must confess that hearing Harrison Ford endorse a project carries a unique weight. His extensive experience in Hollywood, spanning both its peaks and valleys, lends an extra layer of credibility to his words. With an impressive portfolio of legendary projects under his belt, for him to describe Shrinking as the one that made him feel “comfortable” and “confident” is nothing short of a significant accolade.

Based on all that we’ve discussed, it seems logical to expect he’ll reprise his role as Paul in Season 3 of Shrinking. I’m eagerly anticipating that! In the interim, he’s got a lot on his plate. The movie Captain America: Brave New World is scheduled for release in February, and the second season of the Yellowstone spinoff 1923 is set to premiere in February 2025 as well.

If you’re keen on revisiting the actor’s cherished role, consider watching the initial two seasons of the series Shrinking, available via an Apple TV+ membership.
