As a lifelong Bollywood enthusiast, I must confess that my admiration for Vivek Oberoi has only grown stronger after reading his recent interview with MensXP. The man is not just an exceptional actor but also a profound thinker, unafraid to share his honest thoughts on matters close to the heart.
Vivek Oberoi, an outspoken actor within Bollywood, isn’t hesitant about expressing candid opinions in interviews. Lately, he’s spoken up regarding open marriages, expressing confusion towards the idea. Being a traditional Indian (desi) individual, he feels that the centuries-old notion of exclusive relationships holds some merit.
In a candid interview with MensXP, Vivek Oberoi, who has been married to Priyanka Alva for over a decade, discussed the concept of love marriage. He has a traditional take on marriages and emphasizes the significance of exclusivity in marriages.
I find myself utterly baffled by the notion of an ‘open marriage.’ The term ‘open exclusivity’ leaves me equally puzzled. To my mind, it’s either a full commitment, or it’s not; there seems to be no middle ground. I can’t fathom the idea of a relationship that straddles both.
The actor, being strongly connected to his cultural background, made it clear that this notion goes against his personal values. As a traditional Punjabi individual, he tends to adhere more closely to the customary approach to matrimony.
As a firm believer, I acknowledge my inclination towards the traditional perspective on monogamy in marriage. While I understand and respect the idea of open marriages, I personally find solace in the timeless notion of exclusivity that has been woven into the fabric of matrimony for centuries. Though I recognize certain antiquated practices may not hold up today, I firmly believe that this particular tradition is one worth preserving.
Oberoi emphasized his strong adherence to the traditional relationship model and made clear that he holds a unique commitment towards his wife, Priyanka Alva. He explained, “Each morning when I rise, I’m reminded of her, and I feel love. Occasionally, I ponder: if given the choice among all women in the cosmos, would I still pick her? My answer is yes, I would still choose her. Therefore, if you can maintain that deep affection day by day, month by month, decade after decade, it’s more freeing than an open marriage.
Vivek Oberoi tied the knot with Priyanka Alva on October 29, 2010. It is noteworthy that Alva is a politician’s and former minister’s daughter. The couple are proud parents to two beautiful children – Vivaan Veer and Ameya Nirvana. On the professional side of things, you’ll soon see him in Indra Kumar’s Masti 4, sharing screen space with Aftab Shivdasani and Riteish Deshmukh.
