Denzel Washington Becomes a Minister After Saying Actors “Can’t Talk” About Religion in Hollywood

As a seasoned gamer with a soft spot for movies and an appreciation for the arts, I must say, Denzel Washington‘s transformation into a minister truly resonates with me on a deeper level. His journey mirrors that of many characters I’ve played in games – a life-changing moment, a quest to discover oneself, and an unwavering faith that guides him through it all.

After declaring that discussing religion is off-limits for actors in Hollywood, Denzel Washington has taken on the role of a minister.

Last Saturday, December 21st, a man of 69 years old was baptized and granted a minister’s license at New York City’s Kelly Temple. This event was announced by Archbishop Christopher Bryant in a Facebook post.

As a fervent admirer, I express my joy over Minister Denzel Washington’s inclusion into the clergy, as he was granted his minister’s license today within the Church of God in Christ. The occasion was nothing short of inspiring. The archbishop highlighted that during this very service, he underwent water baptism, adorning a white robe for the occasion.

Bryant mentioned that the Kelly Temple holds a special significance for him, since he used to go there as a kid and experienced being overcome by the Holy Spirit after attending another church with Richard Townsend during the 1980s.

After some time, Washington expressed during the event, as reported by Bryant, that “I’ve arrived at last.” He went on to say, “[If God] has accomplished this for me, then nothing is beyond His capabilities for you. The possibilities are truly endless.

Previously in November, Washington had shared with Esquire that attending the West Angeles church service with Townsend was a profoundly impactful experience. He reminisced about how at the conclusion of the sermon, there was an invitation to approach the altar for those seeking salvation. Washington revealed that he was subsequently led “behind the scenes” somewhere, where they engaged in prayer on his behalf.

He expressed that he would surrender everything to a higher power today, not quite sure of what that entailed. Upon reaching his destination, he found people praying and sharing their faith. He responded with joyful praises (hallelujah), feeling a sense of upliftment. It was as if his back was straightened, his eyes were closed, and he was overwhelmed, unable to find the right words to express the feelings flooding him. He continued to speak incoherently because he felt filled with the divine spirit.

The actor openly shared how his recent experience deepened his faith more strongly than ever, now free from the anxiety of concealing this side of himself. He expressed to the media outlet, “When you observe me, you witness the highest expression I can offer with what I’ve been blessed with by my divine guide.” Feeling uninhibited, he declared that he no longer cares about others’ opinions. He added, “Discussing fear is not a winning strategy in the world of Oscars or parties. In this town, you don’t say such things.

In Hollywood, religion isn’t often discussed as it lacks popularity and appeal. Yet, this doesn’t imply that those in Hollywood are non-believers.
