As a cinephile who has spent countless evenings huddled under blankets, watching movies of all genres, I can confidently say that Mean Girls holds a special place in my heart. The film’s wit, charm, and relatable characters have made it a timeless classic, and its influence can still be felt today.
Twenty years have passed since Mean Girls graced our screens, yet it remains one of the most beloved comedies ever made. One of its notable cast members has recently suggested a belated reunion for this iconic film. Directed by Mark Waters and penned by Tina Fey, Mean Girls chronicles Cady (portrayed by Lindsay Lohan), her newfound friends, and their quest for retribution against the school’s most popular clique, the Plastics. Alongside Lohan, Mean Girls features Rachel McAdams, Amanda Seyfried, Lacey Chabert, and Jonathan Bennett.
According to an interview with People Magazine (as reported by Variety), Jonathan Bennett expressed his desire for the cast to come together again for a brand new holiday movie. In the movie “Mean Girls”, he portrayed Aaron, who developed feelings for Cady, despite Aaron previously being Regina George’s boyfriend, the leader of the Plastics. Although “Mean Girls” isn’t typically considered a Christmas movie, its memorable Christmas dance scene has made it a tradition for many to re-watch every year around the holidays. Bennett explained, “I believe what makes ‘Mean Girls’ and Christmas movies so special is that they both share a common thread – they all bring joy to people.
It’s striking how similar the audience for Mean Girls and Christmas movies seems to be. Both groups seek out films that can lift their spirits and leave them in a more positive frame of mind at the end. I believe that’s exactly what these movies manage to achieve.
After starring in numerous Hallmark Christmas movies following his role in Mean Girls, Bennett expressed a desire to reunite with his former co-stars Lindsay Lohan and Lacey Chabert for a new film, especially during the holiday season. He posed the question, “When can we bring it together and make a Christmas movie with Lacey Chabert, me, and Lindsay Lohan?” He added, “That’s what I’m hoping for because I believe it would bring joy to many people. Let’s make it happen!
‘Mean Girls’ Is 20 Years Old
Without making you feel like time has flown, it’s been 20 years since McAdams spoke many memorable lines as the now widely recognized Regina George. To commemorate this significant anniversary, Fisher Price unveiled collectible figurines based on one of Mean Girls‘ most notable scenes where the Plastics enacted a sexually suggestive dance to “Jingle Bell Rock” at their school’s annual talent show. This scene has since gained iconic status, being imitated numerous times throughout the years.
Just like how various studios have attempted to emulate the formula of blockbuster hits, they did the same with the popular movie “Mean Girls,” released in 2004. After its debut, numerous studios came up with their own interpretations of a “Mean Girls”-style film, which met with varying levels of success. The original “Mean Girls” franchise even tried to continue its momentum with a sequel that received mixed reviews. Yet, as many enthusiasts would concur, the initial release remains unmatched. By the way, you can now stream Mean Girls on Prime Video.
