As a seasoned movie critic with over three decades of immersing myself in the world of cinema, I must say that James Gunn’s approach to releasing “Creature Commandos” episodes weekly resonates deeply with my own sentiments.
Terrific tidings for all you Creature Commandos enthusiasts! If you’ve been binge-watching the TV series these past few weeks with your Max subscription, I’m thrilled to share some fantastic news that will extend your enjoyment beyond seven episodes. Today, it was officially announced that a second season of Creature Commandos is set to join the lineup of upcoming DC TV shows!
Over at X (previously known as Twitter), Gunn – co-head of DC Studios alongside Peter Safran – addressed a fan’s query about why the episodes of Creature Commandos aren’t released simultaneously, given that “streaming services often follow this practice for a better viewing experience.” His response was:
The reason behind its rising popularity is that each episode offers a chance for meaningful discussion and growth, fostering an eager audience. As conversations about it have been favorable, its fame has grown from one episode to another. I prefer releasing our shows weekly since it allows for ongoing engagement with our viewers. For those who prefer binge-watching, they can wait until the end of the season.

As a passionate movie enthusiast, I found myself utterly captivated when the DCU’s Batman and Wonder Woman graced the screen in Creature Commandos Episode 4. And here’s an intriguing tidbit: our show’s executive producer revealed James Gunn’s precise guidelines for the scene that left us all in a state of shock!
David Harbour Shares an Intriguing Idea About Frankenstein Following the First Episode of Creature Commandos, which Seems Plausible to Me
I share James Gunn’s viewpoint. Initially, I appreciated the novelty of full-season releases when I subscribed to Netflix over 9 years ago. However, these days, I prefer weekly episode drops for streaming shows. This approach suits my busy life better, allowing me to follow a show without feeling compelled to binge it all at once, as Gunn noted. Additionally, week-to-week shows tend to perform better in terms of audience growth and conversation. For instance, if all episodes of “The Mandalorian” had been released simultaneously on Disney+, I suspect Grogu might not have gained as much popularity as he did.
If all eight episodes of Creature Commandos Season 1 had been released simultaneously, I might have binge-watched it straight away. However, since they’re being released week by week, I can take a week to ponder over the events of each episode before tuning in again to see how things unfold further. It seems that this is how all DC Universe shows will be distributed, as hinted by what James Gunn mentioned to that fan. This release pattern is also expected for Peacemaker Season 2 and Lanterns, with the first season of Peacemaker being aired weekly and Lanterns confirmed to premiere on HBO first.
Each Thursday, fresh episodes of “Creature Commandos” can be found on Max, so remember to frequently revisit TopMob for updates on the escapades of Rick Flag Sr., The Bride, Eric Frankenstein, Weasel, Doctor Phosphorous, Nina Mazursky, and many others. Additionally, keep an eye out for other DCU shows such as “Waller”, “Paradise Lost”, “Booster Gold”, and the animated series “Blue Beetle”. And don’t forget to check what upcoming DC movies are in store as well.
