As a film enthusiast with over three decades of movie-watching under my belt, I must say that “The Muppet Christmas Carol” remains one of my favorite holiday films. Recently, I revisited this classic on Disney+ and found myself once again pondering over a scene that has puzzled me for years – the grappling hook scene involving Rizzo and Gonzo.
During holidays, it seems everyone becomes fixated on watching fantastic Christmas films, and let me tell you, “The Muppet Christmas Carol” is definitely among them. I recently revisited this movie using my Disney+ membership, and although I still maintain it’s the best version of “A Christmas Carol“, there’s a particular scene that has always left me puzzled.
Michael Caine once expressed that he believed this film was ideal for showing his daughter, but his perspective might change after hearing my controversial take on a scene that has always troubled me. Before adding another log to the fire, allow me to delve into this peculiar scene which I find questionable.
Rizzo And Gonzo’s Grapple Hook Scene Confuses Me
When the spirit of Christmas Past appears to Scrooge in “The Muppet Christmas Carol,” Gonzo and Rizze pursue him since he’s flying. Despite being airborne, they need a grappling hook to tether onto Scrooge and maintain their pace with him. Over the years, I’ve watched this scene multiple times, but I can’t find a clear attachment point for the grappling hook. However, Gonzo and Rizze arrive unscathed, which leaves me wondering where on earth they managed to attach it.
I Think The Grapple Hook Caught Scrooge In The Anus
As a devoted film enthusiast, I must admit that I tread on potentially contentious ground, much like the backlash I experienced when I critically examined the quirks of “Rudolph The Red-Nosed Reindeer“. However, in response to a recent query, I’d dare say I have an answer that may not be suitable for all audiences (NSFW). Picture this: if you were to imagine a grappling hook being deftly maneuvered, it would ascend and penetrate through Scrooge’s garment, finding its mark nestled comfortably between his posterior cheeks, and firmly lodged within his anus.

It’s rather peculiar, yet it becomes clear if you pay attention to the sequence. From the vantage points shown, the rope is consistently positioned between his legs and concealed by his robe. If it were connected to his waist belt to secure his robe, it would undoubtedly come loose under the weight of Gonzo and Rizzo. Instead, it seems that a single leg could have held these two in place during their journey, ensuring their relative safety. However, we never notice any anchoring point throughout the scene.
Unfortunately, I find myself in a situation where the grappling hook might end up landing on a character’s posterior, which isn’t ideal. To lighten the mood, let me remind you that this comedic mishap occurs in the movie “The Muppet Christmas Carol” when Scrooge is still being grumpy. Rest assured, it’s not like we actually witness the event happening, and it’s safe to say the Muppets didn’t intend it. This film remains a delightful holiday choice for family entertainment.
While what I’m about to say is just a hypothesis, feel free to form your own opinions. However, I invite you to watch the scene yourself when you have the opportunity and propose an alternative interpretation if you can. If not, I assure you that it will be challenging to find a counterpoint because I put forth significant effort in trying to debunk this theory.
At this moment, you can stream “The Muppet Christmas Carol” on Disney+. This timeless film is an ideal choice for the holidays, regardless of any adult-oriented interpretations, and I genuinely recommend that everyone finds a moment to enjoy it.
