As a longtime admirer of the dynamic fusion of art and sportswear, I am consistently intrigued by the innovative collaborations that grace our sneaker scene. The latest offering from Mr. Bailey‘s CONCEPT(K) studio and adidas has undeniably caught my attention, with its captivating ombre effect and subtle nod to wearability.
Daniel “Mr. Bailey”, the founder of Concept Kicks (CONCEPT(K)), has shared on Instagram details about his design studio’s latest partnership with adidas – a discreet reworking of a shoe from the Adizero series. Unlike previous collaborations between Mr. Bailey and adidas, such as the sculptural and innovative “Ammonite Superstar” (2020), “OZLUCENT” (2022) and “OZMORPHIS” (2023), this new sneaker focuses on understated elegance and practicality.
The collaboration features an ombre effect that combines with its greyscale color scheme to create a compelling light-to-dark ethos that reaches from the toebox to the heel. This is replicated on the midfoot’s Three Stripe graphic, with each stripe slightly darker than the one in front of it. Finishing details are served up by suede overlays and a CONCEPT(K) hit on the tongue. Though the silhouette’s name has yet to be revealed, its bottom half appears similar in shape to the Bad Bunny x adidas Adizero SL72.
In a 2021 interview with TopMob, Mr. Bailey expressed his constant curiosity about emerging materials and construction methods, stating that he is always eager to incorporate these into his work. He further explained that he is inspired by the remarkable achievements of those around him, which fuels a sense of continuous improvement and friendly competition. Essentially, it’s a mix of staying updated, learning from others, and striving for excellence.
The upcoming CONCEPT(K) x adidas model is set to enter the friendly rivalry sometime in 2025 upon its release. Mr. Bailey hinted at a launch in Paris, possibly during Paris Fashion Week, so keep an eye out for further updates as they become public.
