As someone who has spent countless hours immersed in the captivating world of “Severance“, I can confidently say that the sneak peek at Season 2 left me more puzzled than ever, especially concerning the mysterious Ms. Casey/Gemma. The empty wellness room and the ominous tone surrounding her character have only fueled my theories about her true role in Lumon.

As a movie enthusiast, I can’t help but feel like Christmas came early! Apple TV generously offered a tantalizing glimpse of the first eight minutes from Season 2 of “Severance,” due for release on their 2025 television schedule in January. The preview is set entirely within the severed floor of Lumon, though it appears there are some significant changes. I’m eagerly anticipating that Season 2 will provide clarity on all the cliffhangers left hanging after the Season 1 finale… although this unexpected sneak peek seems to have raised more questions than it answered. One scene in particular, involving Ms. Casey, has been stuck in my mind, leaving me curious about where her story might lead us next.

Why Does The Wellness Room Look Like That?

The opening eight minutes of Season 2 are filled with palpable tension. Initially, we see Mark awakening at work amidst a floored interior. Yet, his inner instincts don’t delay in setting him on a quest for an object that swiftly clarifies its importance.

Mark S. is desperately looking for Ms. Casey, the wellness counselor, who turned out to be his alter ego’s wife, Gemma, towards the end of Season 1. He has been frantically searching for this woman because his counterpart learned at the end of Season 1 that Gemma had supposedly died in a car accident… but there are doubts about her fate.

In this sneak peek, when Mark S. enters the wellness room, we too are eagerly seeking answers, much like him. Regrettably, upon arrival, we discover that the area has undergone changes, leaving only two green couches in the waiting room. The walls, once adorned with artwork, now stand bare, and all other decorations are noticeably absent. Disappointingly, the rooms where Ms. Casey would hold her sessions have vanished completely, replaced by drywall where the doors used to be.

Further in this overview, you’ll find additional startling revelations. To begin with, Mark’s original team has been swapped out for three new Macro Data Refiners, who are just starting their tenure. It’s also revealed that it’s been five months since Mark S., Helly R., Irving B., and Dylan G. activated the Overtime Protocol, enabling their Innies to expose Lumon’s activities on its isolated floor. This event has led to what they refer to as “severance renovation.

I’m puzzled about the wellness office situation. If the rest of Mark S.’s team was restructured, why wasn’t Ms. Casey spared? It seems counterintuitive to overhaul a team that positively impacts employee mental health during a reform process. Removing or leaving an empty space that provided such benefits seems illogical, especially when it still retains a familiar appearance. It almost appears as if they are trying to convey a message to Mark S.

This situation makes me curious about the true nature of Ms. Casey’s involvement on the floor that was cut off, whether she knew her part or not. It seems unlikely that she was merely there to provide therapeutic services. Furthermore, one might ask, what transpired in her life during the past five months?

What Really Happened to Ms. Casey/Gemma?

Similar to many other enthusiasts, I’ve been pondering for some time now whether Lumon might be conducting experiments on Ms. Casey. Some theories surrounding the series ‘Severance’ propose that Gemma may have actually perished, and Ms. Casey could potentially be a clone of Mark’s wife. This speculation originates from the observation that Ms. Casey doesn’t depart Lumon after work hours, but instead revisits the foreboding “testing floor.

The mystery surrounding Ms. Casey and Gemma is one we hope is answered in Season 2. There is no doubt in my mind that Mrs. Selvig/Harmony Cobel (Patricia Arquette) is involved. She was the one to send him to Ms. Casey in the first place, always watching carefully via cameras, while also inserting herself into his outtie’s life as his neighbor. I worry for Gemma’s fate, though, as the Season 2 trailer features the Boyhood actress’ voice saying “Mark, there’ll be no honeymoon ending for you.”

In the recently released video, Milchick attributes Cobel’s job termination and interference in Mark’s personal life to an intense fixation, possibly romantic or sexual. The new manager further reveals that when news about Lumon’s sinister treatment of its workers surfaced, the rest of Mark’s MDR team refused to resume work, showing him a newspaper article on whistleblower exposures as proof. Notably, half of the article’s content is blacked out, leading us to suspect, not unexpectedly, that Lumon continues to conceal information and deceive. Quite a revelation!

Without a doubt, I’m skeptical about anything Milchick says during the first eight minutes of the eagerly anticipated new season. It wouldn’t shock me if the whole whistleblower event and reforms for severance were just a ploy, another tale designed to reassure the severance workers and distract them from uncovering the truth.
