As a lifelong fan of Doctor Who, I can confidently say that the recent Season 15 teaser has sent me into a state of pure excitement! The glimpse we got at Skaro, the Daleks’ homeworld, was nothing short of breathtaking and left me eagerly anticipating what Russell T Davies has in store for us.

From its debut in 1963, the iconic British series “Doctor Who” has been introducing us to a host of unforgettable villains. Among these, Cybermen, Weeping Angels, The Master, Ood, and particularly the Daleks, have left an indelible mark. Recently, we’ve caught our first sneak peek at the legendary Dalek race in a new light – or rather, their home – and it’s nothing short of breathtaking.

Yesterday, a new teaser for “Joy to the World” was released on YouTube alongside the Doctor Who Christmas special. This preview offers a sneak peek into Season 15, which can be considered as the second season during the Disney+ era, although that’s just technicalities. Ncuti Gatwa takes on the role of the Fifteenth Doctor, and he will be accompanied by Varada Sethu as his new companion, Belinda Chandra. Intriguingly, the initial moments of the teaser provide a fleeting glimpse of Skaro in an unprecedented manner.

Indeed, Skaro is well-known as the homeland of the Daleks, yet we’ve never had a chance to witness it at the peak of its might. Although The Doctor has dropped by from time to time, these visits have been relatively rare. However, this upcoming episode seems to offer a comprehensive view of the planet, first depicted in the 1963 episode “The Daleks,” but later portrayed as a desolate, radioactive wasteland following a long-lasting conflict between the Thals and the Kaleds that made it uninhabitable. The teaser suggests a stunning transformation – Skaro now appears as a radiant, golden city with towering dome spires and UFO-shaped spacecraft hovering overhead. This could mean that The Doctor’s visit to Skaro occurs before the war began or perhaps the Daleks have found a way to rejuvenate their homeworld to its initial splendor.

Ncuti Gatwa’s ‘Doctor Who’ Wish Is Coming True

It seems that the long-awaited wish of actor Gatwa, who plays Doctor Who, may finally be granted now that the Season 15 teaser trailer has been released. In an interview with Entertainment Weekly earlier this year, the 32-year-old star expressed his desire to confront the Daleks, but had doubts as it seemed unlikely.

I’ve been told stories suggesting I’ll never encounter a Dalek. It would make me incredibly frustrated if that were true! Before my tenure as Doctor Who ends, I should definitely have a run-in with a Dalek. After all, what’s the point of being Doctor Who without battling a Dalek?

Initial glance at Skaro suggests those rumblings were merely a smokescreen to mislead us about what showrunner Russell T Davies had planned all along. Now, Gatwa and fans can rest easy knowing that The Doctor and the Daleks will clash again in the upcoming season. As of now, there’s no definite release date other than it airing sometime in 2025, so until then, don’t forget to watch the contemporary episodes of Doctor Who on Max, and the current season available now on Disney+.
