As a dedicated fan who has been hooked since the thrilling debut of Squid Game, I can hardly contain my excitement for its third and final season! Having binge-watched every nail-biting episode, I’ve become an avid follower of Gi-Hun’s journey, from his desperate struggles to his triumphant victory, and now his noble attempts to dismantle the deadly games.
Yesterday, December 26th, saw the debut of season 2 for the popular series “Squid Game” on Netflix. Not one to delay, Netflix has already confirmed that there will indeed be a third season, and it’s slated to be the last – wrapping up in 2025. This announcement was made through a blog post on Netflix’s Tudum platform. Additionally, fans received a letter from the show’s director, writer, and executive producer, Hwang Dong-hyuk, which you can read in full below.
In the initial run of the show, we encountered Seong Gi-Hun, portrayed by Lee Jung-Jae who clinched the Primetime Emmy Award for Outstanding Lead Actor in a Drama Series – a historic first for a non-English speaking role and the inaugural Asian male recipient. This character won the lethal “Squid Games,” a high-stakes series of contests, where the victor receives approximately $31 million USD. Instead of keeping the money, he opted to utilize it towards dismantling these games. In the sequel, Gi-Hun revisits the enigmatic island hosting the games and persuades a fresh group of contestants to vote for the games’ termination, sharing the prize pool among them. Without divulging any plot twists, the narrative for the second season revolves around Gi-Hun’s endeavor to convince these players to halt the games.
Netflix hasn’t disclosed any specifics about the third series of Squid Game, such as a release date or storyline, yet. They assure us that more details will be shared in the near future.
