As a fan who cherishes nostalgia and the stories behind our beloved films, I can’t help but feel touched by Justin Long’s heartfelt reminiscence of his time working with Alan Rickman on Galaxy Quest. Twenty-five years have passed since then, yet those memories seem as fresh and vivid as they were that day.
Quarter of a century back, Justin Long made his cinematic debut in the film “Galaxy Quest,” partnering with the now-legendary Alan Rickman, who sadly passed away.
To mark the film’s anniversary, the actor shared two old photos from the beginning of his career. In the first one, he’s pictured with Alan Rickman and Jeremy Howard, while the second features Sam Rockwell. The Goosebumps actor also penned a heartfelt message reminiscing about that period in his life.
For the first time, he found himself on a film set, in Los Angeles, and embarking on one of his initial plane journeys. In part of his message, he described this photo featuring him, Alan Rickman, and Jeremy Howard (who portrayed his friend in the movie and possessed the ability to destroy things with his mind in the movie ‘Accepted’) as being taken at a party hosted by Alan for all cast and crew members.
Long made a guess about the potential actor for the role of Harry Potter, considering his convincing portrayals of villainous characters in Die Hard and Robin Hood.
My interactions with him were completely different than what you might expect… he was incredibly kind, generous, and surprisingly dry (very dry) yet playful. To this day, I frequently think about him, and reflecting back on our time together, a quarter century later, one of the best things that came out of it was getting to work with an actor as exceptional as Alan.

In the Live Free or Die Hard movie, the leading actor gave high praise to his co-stars from Galaxy Quest, Rockwell and Rickman, calling them exceptional talents that are seldom found in Hollywood. He also encouraged his fans to listen to his podcast interview on Happy Sad Confused, which he did with Rockwell.
In conversation with podcast host Josh Horowith, Long expressed similar feelings to those shared on his Instagram post, expressing surprise at how “fun-loving” Rickman turned out to be.
He conveyed an impression, similar to a character sketch of someone, their overall demeanor,” he mentioned. “I had expected him to be quite formal, quintessentially British… but instead, he was the one dancing more enthusiastically than anyone else at the gathering.
The actor from “Jeepers Creepers” once remembered an incident during his career where he was taking over a play that Rickman was leaving, and he handed Long a card with a pleasant message inside but had the words “Fuck you” written in elegant script on the front of the card in small letters.
