As a die-hard fan of fantasy and tabletop role-playing games, I must say that these shows and series have truly taken my breath away! Each one offers a unique perspective on mythical worlds, magical beings, and epic quests that keep me on the edge of my seat.
“The appeal of magic, supernatural events, and imaginary realms has consistently captivated television viewers, leading to an abundance of fantasy series being produced. A key feature of fantasy is that the narrative doesn’t necessarily need to adhere to historical facts, rational explanations, or natural laws for coherence. Occasionally, it can be challenging to distinguish between fantasy, horror, and science fiction, but viewers are always excited when these genres intersect.
Over the past few years, fantasy genres have gained significant popularity on streaming platforms. Among these, Amazon Prime Video has risen as a key player, satisfying the demands of fans who love this genre. This streaming colossus boasts a vast library of licensed shows, but its self-produced content, mostly from Amazon-MGM studios, stands out even more. Just like Netflix, Amazon often invests heavily in production, giving its shows an edge in terms of visual quality (a crucial aspect for fantasy genres). Other aspects of production are also generally well-executed.
Here’s every Prime original fantasy tv series so far, ranked.

‘Secret Level’ (2024 – Present)
Under the direction of Tim Miller, who is renowned for his work on Deadpool, comes Secret Level – a compilation of 15 intriguing, individual animated tales spanning various genres. These stories are loosely tied to popular video games and franchises, such as Warhammer 40,000: Space Marine 2 and Mega Man. For enthusiasts of fantasy, there’s a thrilling adventure in Dungeons and Dragons where heroes confront the five-headed draconic deity named Tiamut.
The Voice Cast Will Leave You in a Spell
The movie “Secret Level” boasts an impressive ensemble of actors such as Arnold Schwarzenegger, Kevin Hart, Patrick Schwarzenegger, and Keanu Reeves, making it a delight for both gaming enthusiasts and casual viewers alike. Each story moves swiftly, offering concise yet engaging narratives that are equally informative and suspenseful.
While it’s true that not every installment manages to shine, this slight imperfection keeps the series from being hailed as one of the top video game adaptations. Some episodes, such as “Spelunky: Tally” and “Playtime: Fulfillment,” might induce sleepiness in viewers, but fear not. The fantasy episode is commendable.

Oshi no Ko (2020 – 2024)
In this captivating anime series, we follow the lives of two individuals who were once an obstetrician-gynecologist and one of his deceased patients. In a unique twist of fate, they are reborn as twins to a renowned Japanese pop star, embarking on a journey through the tumultuous world of the entertainment industry in Asia. Along the way, they discover how to turn their trials and tribulations into valuable lessons.
Major Milestones
The conclusion of this series may not satisfy devotees of the original content, as it appears to be hastily concluded and lacks depth. However, other aspects are handled well. This series has garnered immense popularity in Japan and quickly dominated various online platforms, with the opening theme song “Idol” amassing a total of 100 million streams and views on Spotify and YouTube within just two weeks of its debut. Furthermore, a survey conducted by Benesse in 2023 among 18,802 third to sixth-grade Japanese children revealed that Ai Hoshino (the pop star’s name) ranked third on the list of the top 10 most respected individuals, following only “friend” and “mother.

Pure Escapist Fun
An emotionally intense depiction of duty and lingering anguish, this Hugo Award-nominated series leaves a lasting impression. If you’re wondering about brutality or pseudo-mysticism, they both make an appearance. True to form, the visuals are nothing short of breathtaking, immersing viewers in a captivating fictional realm.
In my opinion, some concerns may linger regarding the depth of character progression. Yet, I believe this aspect will undoubtedly strengthen as the series unfolds, and I wholeheartedly remain optimistic about its evolution. Notably, this program seems to demand a prior knowledge of its originating material to fully appreciate its intricacies, making it an engaging watch for devoted fans alike.

It’s astonishing how series creator Neil Gaiman brought together some of the most renowned actors of today and placed them in this production. You’ll spot Michael Sheen, Brian Cox, Jon Hamm, Derek Jacobi, Benedict Cumberbatch, and Frances McDormand, along with many others. As a result, the acting is superb, while the exploration of religious themes displays a level of academic depth.

According to J.R.R. Tolkien’s lore about Middle-earth, focusing on information from the appendices in “The Lord of the Rings,” the series titled “The Rings of Power” transports us thousands of years prior to the novel’s events, painting a picture of significant happenings during Middle-earth’s Second Age.
In the series, we’ll discover the ways the Rings of Power were crafted, uncover Sauron’s rise to dominance, witness the destruction of the island kingdom of Númenor, and explore the outcome of the final alliance between Elves and Men. The story — spanning millennia in the books — is compressed for a more streamlined viewing experience in the show.

Shortly after its debut, “The Rings of Power” broke records as Prime Video’s most-watched show to date.
The visual appeal of the series may have some characterization flaws, but audiences will undoubtedly admire its beauty.
