‘The Wild Robot’ Returns to Theaters in January Ahead of 2025 Oscars

As a long-time movie aficionado with a heart for animated films and a soft spot for stories that tug at the emotions, I must say that The Wild Robot has truly left me spellbound this year! Having watched my fair share of animations throughout the decades, from the classic Disney tales to the modern marvels of Pixar, DreamWorks’ latest offering ranks among the very best.

The heartwarming tale of Roz, a domestic robot who finds herself stranded on an island and forms an unexpected bond with a gosling, is a testament to Chris Sanders’ exceptional storytelling prowess. I was thoroughly captivated by the film’s breathtaking visuals, enchanting score, and the endearing chemistry between Roz and her feathered companion.

Having followed Sanders’ career since his work on Lilo & Stitch, it’s been a genuine pleasure to witness him reach new heights with The Wild Robot. It is a true masterpiece that will undoubtedly stand the test of time, much like How to Train Your Dragon before it. For those who missed out on this cinematic gem during its initial run or are eager for another viewing, I wholeheartedly recommend catching it on the big screen when it returns on January 17.

To top it all off, the news of The Wild Robot 2 in development has me utterly thrilled! I can hardly wait to embark on another adventure with Roz and her newfound friends. And who knows? Perhaps this time around, we might even get to see Roz’s robotic counterparts learning to dance the hula! After all, as they say, every robot needs a little fun in their life!

2024 has been quite peculiar in the world of cinema. Big franchises have soared and plummeted, while independent filmmakers produced blockbuster sensations. However, among all these releases, The Wild Robot emerged as the most beloved animated film of the year among viewers. It’s aiming to solidify this status at next year’s Oscars. To prepare for its Oscar campaign, and for those who missed it initially or wish to revisit it on a larger-than-life screen, The Wild Robot is coming back to cinemas.

I’m excited to share that I’ll be watching “The Wild Robot” again in theaters on January 17th! This moving animated masterpiece, directed by Chris Sanders of “Lilo & Stitch” fame, is based on Peter Brown’s beloved children’s book. The story revolves around me, Roz – a domestic robot who finds myself stranded on a forest island after a shipwreck. In the midst of this unfamiliar world, I discover an abandoned gosling and embark on a journey to teach it to fly before its species migrates away from the island.

This film is truly something special, combining beauty, emotion, and standing tall as the undisputed animated ruler of 2024. While full details for the return are yet to be confirmed, I can’t wait to see it once more on the big screen!

Stranded on a secluded isle, I, a robot known as Roz, find myself in uncharted territory. As days pass, I forge connections with the island’s vibrant wildlife. One day, I stumble upon a motherless gosling and, over time, a unique bond forms between us – one that feels more like parenthood than friendship.

The movie adaptation of “The Wild Robot” was loved just as much by viewers as it was by critics. On Rotten Tomatoes, the film boasts an almost perfect score of 97%, with an even higher audience rating of 98%. Julian Roman from MovieWeb called it “DreamWorks’ finest work since ‘How to Train Your Dragon’,” stating that it surpassed all expectations and left viewers in awe. The story follows a robot designed for human service, who learns about love and takes care of an orphaned gosling like a devoted mother. The ending, filled with emotions, is said to bring tears to the eyes, making families extremely happy.

‘The Wild Robot 2’ Is in Development

Personally, I found myself thoroughly captivated by “The Wild Robot” – a movie that not only garnered critical acclaim but also proved to be an enormous financial success. Globally, it raked in an impressive $324 million and had a highly successful Video On Demand release. DreamWorks seems optimistic about the franchise’s future, envisioning it reaching the same heights as “How to Train Your Dragon”. In fact, “The Wild Robot 2” is now officially in development! Just recently, Sanders confirmed this exciting news during an interview marking the film’s VOD release. He shared that the sequel is indeed on its way.

“100% yes there are absolutely plans for a second one.”

Sanders’ recent announcement mirrors his statements from an earlier interview during the movie’s cinema release. Back when The Wild Robot was still playing in cinemas, Sanders expressed his desire for a sequel. “I would really like to,” Sanders shared. “I believe our entire team immersed themselves in this film in a way I’ve rarely witnessed before, even myself included.

See The Wild Robot on the big screen when it hits theaters (again) on Jan. 17.
