As a long-time admirer of Boney Kapoor’s unparalleled contributions to Indian cinema, I find myself deeply troubled by the unfortunate display of arrogance and disrespect shown by Naga Vamsi during the recent roundtable discussion. It is truly disheartening to witness such behavior from someone who should know better, especially when addressing a senior figure like Boney Kapoor, whose experience and achievements in the industry are beyond question.
In my humble opinion, success does not grant one the right to be disrespectful or arrogant towards others, especially those who have paved the way for future generations of filmmakers. It is essential to remember that respect should always come before success. After all, as Sanjay Gupta so eloquently put it, “4/5 hits dene se yeh Bollywood ke baap nahin bane na banienge.”
To add a bit of levity to the situation, I find it amusing that Naga Vamsi seems to have forgotten his roots and perhaps even borrowed liberally from others’ successes. I wonder if his next production will also feature a scene where he challenges Boney Kapoor to a friendly game of table tennis – just for old times’ sake!
In simpler terms, Boney Kapoor, a renowned Indian film producer, recently participated in a meeting with other prominent producers across India. Notable attendees included Naga Vamsi from South India, actor Siddharth, Archana Kalpathi, Don Palathara, and Chandini Sasha. The discussion focused on the current state of the Indian film industry. However, things took an uncomfortable turn when Naga Vamsi engaged in a heated argument with Boney Kapoor, which upset many present. Later, filmmakers like Hansal Mehta and Sanjay Gupta criticized Naga Vamsi for his behavior towards Boney Kapoor. Gupta said, “Giving 4 out of 5 hits doesn’t make you the father of Bollywood, nor will it in the future.
A disagreement between producers Boney Kapoor and Naga Vamsi during a Galatta Plus roundtable discussion attracted interest from several Hindi film directors who were displeased with Vamsi’s behavior towards Kapoor. As a result, they publicly voiced their critical opinions on social media. For instance, Kaabil director Sanjay Gupta shared a video excerpt from the interview in which Boney stated that Telugu movies have a distinct market in the US, while Tamil films have a unique market in Singapore and Malaysia. In response, Naga Vamsi claimed that the Gulf region has a significant market for Malayalam films.
In response, Gupta asserted that Vamsi displayed a “contemptuous demeanor” towards the senior producer Boney Kapoor. He further commented, “What is this arrogant individual seated alongside a seasoned producer like Boney Kapoor, flaunting his false self-importance and belittling him? Notice his behavior and contemptuous attitude. 4/5 hits won’t make them the father of Bollywood.

Beyond the Shootout at Wadala incident, the creator continued by tweeting, “Could he dare to confront esteemed producers such as Allu Arvind Sir or Suresh Babu Sir like that, with fingers pointed directly at them? Remember, learn to embrace RESPECT before ACHIEVEMENT.

Hansal Mehta, director of The Buckingham Murders, also expressed his thoughts on the situation and pointed out that Vamsi was overconfident during their conversation. He additionally mentioned, “Given how arrogant this individual, Mr. Naga Vamsi, was acting, and now knowing who he is: I find it noteworthy that his recent success as a producer, Lucky Bhaskar, appears to have drawn heavily from the Scam series.
Take a look at his entire post:
At the meeting, Vamsi shared with Kapoor his viewpoint that South Indians are shifting how Bollywood perceives cinema today. He believes that the Hindi movie industry is often focused on producing films for areas like Bandra and Juhu.
