As a long-time follower of Marina Squerciati‘s career and her character Kim Burgess on NBC’s Chicago P.D., I must say that her pregnancy announcement was nothing short of remarkable! The actress managed to keep it under wraps throughout an entire season, which is no small feat in the world of television.
Reflecting on my own life experiences as a working mom, I can only imagine the challenges she faced in maintaining such a secret while juggling her professional and personal commitments. Her daughter’s artistic take on the situation was both amusing and poignant – a testament to Squerciati’s ability to balance her roles as a mother and an actress with grace and humor.
What struck me the most, however, was the actress’s resilience in facing the ups and downs of her character on Chicago P.D., while simultaneously navigating the joys and trials of real-life parenthood. It’s a testament to her dedication to her craft and her family that she managed to keep both worlds running smoothly.
In the end, I can’t help but marvel at Squerciati’s ability to keep such a big secret for so long – even I was fooled! As she prepares for 2025, I wish her and her family all the best, and I look forward to seeing how Kim Burgess navigates the upcoming One Chicago crossover in late January.
To wrap it up, I’d like to add a little joke: I guess we can now add #PregnantDetective to Marina Squerciati’s list of hashtags!
During the TV season, Marina Squerciati often grabs headlines due to the dramatic turns in her character Kim Burgess on NBC’s Chicago P.D.. However, it was news from her personal life that made waves as the year drew to a close. Taking to social media, she unveiled a secret: she had been pregnant throughout the year! In one post, she joyfully displayed her baby bump in a “bikini life” photo, while another showcased a humorous depiction of her older daughter’s artistic interpretation. Additionally, her caption subtly addressed a question arising from the ongoing twelfth season of her show.
As a huge fan of “One Chicago,” I must say that it’s truly fascinating to observe the life of the actress who plays such a complex character on the show. Unlike her character, who often finds herself in challenging situations, this talented woman seems to have a lot more to celebrate in real life as she prepares for 2025!
Intrigued by her vibrant spirit and resilience, I took a peek at her latest Instagram announcement. The photos she shared were nothing short of inspiring, showcasing the many milestones she’s achieved throughout her life journey. I strongly encourage everyone to take a moment to appreciate her accomplishments by checking out her post and scrolling through both images!

Bravo to Marina Squerciati and her team for skillfully concealing her pregnancy during Chicago P.D.’s Season 11 finale and the start of Season 12. There wasn’t a hint of her condition, other than her absence from the first two episodes of the fall season as mentioned in her post. NBC’s popular series creatively explained the character’s absence, and I had assumed that Squerciati’s missed appearances were due to budget cuts among the One Chicago productions! Little did I know!
The announcement of Squerciati’s pregnancy was more than just a display of her baby bump, accompanied by the hashtags #BikiniLife, #MiamiVibes, and #motherofdragons; it also highlighted her daughter’s perspective. That final dragon-themed hashtag might hint at what her daughter symbolized in her art – the trials Squerciati endured as a mother juggling work commitments while maintaining secrecy about her pregnancy from the public eye, a true test of strength and resilience!
During the run of Chicago P.D., Squerciati hid her pregnancy from the cameras for the second time, as she was pregnant during season seven in 2017. She took a maternity leave from the show, which was explained by Burgess needing a break to care for her sister. Interestingly enough, due to the timing in 2024, it seems the actress didn’t have to take a break mid-season. It’s great that she could spend time with her family instead of returning to work for the first two episodes of Season 12.
Without delay, Squerciati’s friends from Chicago One swiftly celebrated the news following her Instagram announcement. Within an hour, ex-PD star Tracy Spiridakos had posted three heart emojis in Squerciati’s comment section. Executive producer Brian Luce commented “Priceless!”, while LaRoyce Hawkins, who has worked alongside Squerciati since the beginning of PD as Kevin Atwater, wrote: “[Something priceless]”.

love you Burgess✨
Congratulatory messages, as well as New Year greetings, have been flooding in for Squerciati, making her recent post particularly heartwarming during the winter hiatus of her long-standing show. Moreover, it’s not just the anticipation of Burgess potentially facing challenges again in the upcoming One Chicago crossover in January that makes this special; it’s also the overall sweetness of the post.
Let me join the chorus of One Chicago fans, along with her PD colleagues, in offering our heartfelt congratulations to Marina Squerciati on the birth of her baby. May this new year bring nothing but happiness and good fortune for her and her loved ones.
