As a die-hard fan of Doechii and someone who has been eagerly waiting for her “Denial Is A River” music video, I must say that this visual masterpiece exceeded all my expectations! The way she creatively blended elements from “Family Matters” with her own life story is nothing short of genius.
From the moment Doechii walks into her fictional home with groceries to the final explosion scene, every frame was a delightful surprise. The cameos by Zack Fox, ScHoolboy Q, Rickey Thompson, Teezo Touchdown, Brad Pitt (a.k.a Earl Sweatshirt), SiR, Baby Tate and DJ Miss Milan were icing on the cake.
The way Doechii seamlessly transitioned through different eras of her life, from meal prep to a house party, showcasing her growth and success over the years, was truly inspiring. The fact that she even broke the fourth wall and addressed the camera directly made me feel like I was part of her journey.
I can’t wait to see what Doechii has in store for us next, but for now, I’m just gonna rewatch this video on loop and soak up all the dope references and Easter eggs! And hey, if anyone needs me, I’ll be in my room, pretending that SiR threw me out of a window like he did to that random guy… only joking, of course! 😄
Following a week filled with excitement and expectation, Doechii unveiled the “Denial Is A River” music video. For this project, she gathered her friends in a Family Matters-inspired setting, inviting stars like Zack Fox, ScHoolboy Q, Rickey Thompson, Teezo Touchdown, Brad Pitt (also known as Earl Sweatshirt), SiR, Baby Tate, and DJ Miss Milan.
The “Denial Is A River Show” is modeled after a sitcom, following in the footsteps of a theme song video, three related skits (“Doechii Slaps Brad Pitt,” “LA ROSA DE DOECHII”, and “Can I Hit THat”), and showcasing Doechii’s recent past. It features elements like title cards and background laughter to give it that classic sitcom feel.
The song starts by showing Doechii entering her house carrying groceries, preparing to cook while giving the intro. Then, Fox, her husband, appears in the scene, found engaging flirtatiously with Thompson, just a few steps away in the living room.
Reflecting on my past, I let go of a few tracks / Secured a deal, now it’s official / Here we are in 2021,
I’m back, embodying Mowalola’s style, sporting a sleek ponytail as Touchdown, Q and more take their seats on the couch. The cozy living room gathering escalates into a full-blown house party, teeming with record label executives, fellow rappers, and strangers – one of whom required Sir’s swift intervention, getting tossed out the window.
Moving ahead or here I am in 2023, Doechii raps as she descends the stairs into a more luxurious lounge. This time, the walls are decorated with gold record awards. She then addresses both the camera and the live audience directly, her rhymes momentarily disrupted by an explosion behind her, reminiscent of “But just when things couldn’t get any worse / My ex shows up at my place / And wreaks havoc / On everything I own.
Check out the exhibition displayed in the gallery above and don’t forget to join Doechii’s “Denial Is A Stream” live event on her YouTube channel this afternoon, January 2nd, starting at 6 p.m. Eastern Standard Time.
