Zendaya is unquestionably the multitalented superstar who has made a significant impact in Hollywood with her diverse skills spanning acting, modeling, singing, and dancing. Yet, it appears that her early foray into reality TV around a decade ago continues to affect her, as she still carries a “lingering resentment” regarding this experience.
2013 saw Zendaya stepping onto the ballroom floor for season 16 of Dancing With the Stars. Her captivating dance skills left spectators in awe. She was partnered with Val Chmerkovskiy, and together they produced a string of remarkable performances. Their bond shone brightly on the dance floor, taking them to the two-part finale. There they displayed an impressive repertoire of dance styles, from samba to freestyle and jive. Regrettably, their journey ended in second place, with Kellie Pickler, a former American Idol contestant, and her partner Derek Hough claiming the title instead.
In a recent feature for W Magazine, Zendaya reminisced about her past experiences. When the interviewer suggested she “should have won”, the star of ‘Euphoria’ acknowledged that at 16, she might not have given the competition as much importance and could have had more fun during her time on the show.
Hey there! Let me share a personal thought with you. That experience still lingers, carrying a tinge of bitterness. At 16, I felt the sting of loss more deeply than words can express. Being thrust into the limelight every week was terrifying, honestly. Looking back, I wish I hadn’t taken it so seriously. If only I could have just shrugged and said, “Eh, whatever,” and enjoyed the ride a bit more. But I was under so much stress. It was quite the rollercoaster for me on that journey.
Zendaya Doesn’t Keep Up With ‘DWTS’ Anymore But Loves Another Reality Show
Many people find comfort in watching Reality TV as it provides a peek into other people’s lives and the drama that unfolds. Unlike many, Zendaya never found herself drawn to Dancing With the Stars. Her mother was a dedicated fan, and Zendaya, who didn’t watch the show until she joined it, felt she wasn’t their typical viewer. When asked by W Magazine about her current reality TV habits, she unexpectedly mentioned Love Is Blind as her favorite. She admitted:
I must confess, I find myself drawn to the reality show ‘Love Is Blind’. I enjoy it, yet I feel a sense of guilt for doing so due to its often raw and unfiltered nature. It’s almost like an indulgence, if you will. Watching it, I can’t help but think, ‘Don’t they realize they’re being filmed?’
As Zendaya’s filmography continues to grow with each new project, fans can hardly wait for what she has in store next. With the last part of Dune expected to release in 2026 and the much-awaited third season of Euphoria, it’s clear that Zendaya’s influence and popularity is only increasing.
