At the 2025 Golden Globe Awards, Demi Moore was honored with the prize for the finest acting performance by an actress in a film, be it musical or comedic.
I found myself nominated alongside Amy Adams, Cynthia Erivo, Karla Sofía Gascón, Mikey Madison, and the remarkable Zendaya. Their respective roles in Nightbitch, Wicked, Emilia Pérez, Anora, and The Challengers have left a profound impact on me. What an honor to be recognized among such talented actresses!
The Globe marked Moore’s third nomination and first win.
She was completely taken aback, absolutely stunned! With a career spanning more than four decades, she’s never before received an award for her acting. Her heart is filled with humility and gratitude, as she expressed during her acceptance speech.”
Or:
“She was flabbergasted, totally astonished by the turn of events! She’s been working in this field for over 45 years without ever winning anything, and now, here she stands, a winner. Her emotions are humble and thankful, as she made clear in her speech upon receiving the award.
30 years ago, a producer labeled Moore as a “popcorn actress.” She later realized this meant she wasn’t supposed to star in successful films or receive recognition. Initially accepting this belief, it slowly eroded her confidence over time.
The actress reminisced about reaching a time when she questioned if she had accomplished everything she was “meant to achieve,” finding herself at a career crossroads that felt quite bleak. It was during this slump that the extraordinary, daring, courageous, and utterly unconventional script for “The Substance” serendipitously found its way to her.
She stated at the conclusion of her speech that the universe signaled to her that you’re still on your journey,” Moore explained, reminiscing about a piece of advice she had once been given. This advice was aimed at empowering women who have ever questioned their intelligence, beauty, or worth, saying, “You’re never ‘just enough.’
A woman once told me, ‘Remember, you’ll never measure up, but recognize your worth by setting aside the yardstick.’ She was right, and today I mark this moment as a testament to my completeness, fueled by love, and for the blessing of pursuing something I adore, and being reminded that I am indeed part of something greater.
In “The Substance”, Moore portrays Elisabeth Sparkle, a veteran Hollywood actress who resorts to a covert cloning method to revive her faltering career. This quirky, gory movie is helmed by Coralie Fargeat and features Margaret Qualley in other key roles as well.
During a conversation about the factors that attracted her to the movie in The Hollywood Reporter‘s drama actress roundtable, Moore expressed, “The script offered a unique, intriguing perspective on the topic of aging. What particularly captivated me was its examination of self-inflicted violence and self-criticism. In my own life, I’ve observed that the harshest criticisms and most damaging actions are often those we direct towards ourselves, rather than anything others have done to us.
Throughout the film, Moore said most of her scenes were “almost all alone” with “no dialogue.”
As a gamer, crafting this character felt like those personal, introspective moments we all experience, you know, alone in our rooms, staring at our reflections, pondering every detail. It wasn’t easy making her feel fully alive since I didn’t have another soul to bounce ideas off of. And let me tell you, it got pretty technical too!
At the outset of the awards ceremony, Emilia Pérez was ahead in nominations with a total of 10, making her title the most recognized across film and television. This film’s impressive tally of 10 nominations shattered the previous record set by a comedy or musical production, outstripping last year’s “Barbie” which received nine nominations in total.
In terms of film nominations, “_The Brutalist_” secured seven nods, “_Conclave_” had six, and both “_Anora_” and “_The Substance_” received five apiece. On the television side, “_The Bear_” topped the list with a total of five nominations, closely followed by “_Only Murders in the Building_” and “_Shogun_,” each receiving four nominations.
Viola Davis is set to get the prestigious Cecil B. DeMille Award, while Ted Danson will be honored with the Carol Burnett Award, an accolade that celebrates outstanding achievements in television.
I tuned into the Golden Globes live last night, right from the Beverly Hilton on CBS, and it was also available to stream on Paramount+. Nikki Glaser was the charming host who kept things rolling smoothly throughout the event.
The Golden Globe awards are produced by Dick Clark Productions, which is co-owned by Penske Media Eldridge – a partnership between Penske Media Corporation and Eldridge – that additionally controls The Hollywood Reporter.
