‘The Batman 2’ Director Matt Reeves Confirms Shooting Will Begin This Year Despite Delays

After it was announced that the release of The Batman 2 has been pushed back to 2027, director Matt Reeves reassured fans in an interview with Deadline on the Golden Globes red carpet that filming will start this year.

In terms of the forthcoming Batman sequel, Reeves has shared that filming is planned for this year. He’s also expressed enthusiasm about the return of the cast and hinted at some fresh faces joining in. Regarding the plot, he mentioned that while the story will build upon what’s come before, viewers might be taken aback by the unexpected twists. Previously, Reeves announced that Colin Farrell would reprise his role as The Penguin in this sequel and it is part of a trilogy. Interestingly, Farrell currently stars in a spin-off series titled “The Penguin,” which has garnered three Golden Globe nominations this year on Max.

The announcement for a delay in The Batman 2 was made at the end of 2024, shifting the release date from October 2026 to October 2027.
