Following the intriguing mysteries left unanswered at the end of Season 5, the beloved series Virgin River made its comeback just before Christmas, serving up even more suspense, the long-anticipated wedding, and a host of unexpected twists. To top it off, the show didn’t shy away from some steamy scenes to keep viewers hooked on one of the most popular streaming platforms with their Netflix membership. I must say that I found Season 6 of Virgin River thoroughly entertaining, but what took me by surprise was seeing a character go above and beyond, making them the standout performer of the season, if not the entire town.
There Really Was A Lot To Love About Virgin River Season 6
The series “Virgin River” has consistently delivered on romance, small-town antics, and surprising plot twists, like the prolonged mystery of who shot Jack in earlier seasons. However, Season 6 managed to raise the bar even further. The main couple, Mel and Jack, finally took their relationship to the next level by getting married at the end of the season, but they faced numerous challenges along the way. These trials ranged from a stripper accidentally showing up at the wrong place, escalating tensions between Mike and Brady that threatened Jack’s bachelor party, and a dramatic incident where Everett nearly died just the night before the wedding.
Additionally, we encountered situations where Hope exceeded her authority as an officiant by organizing a lavish wedding that Mel and Jack didn’t desire. The Preacher was released from his predicament linked to Wes’ demise. Moreover, Muriel received a startling diagnosis of breast cancer, Brie engaged in infidelity with Brady (despite Mike’s knowledge), and proposed to him nonetheless. Lastly, the fate of Charmaine remained uncertain, as she either vanished or met a tragic end, depending on the resolution of that Season 7 cliffhanger.
To put it simply, everything and everyone seemed perfectly aligned this season, but among all, the character who stood out most notably for me was Hope’s relatively recent addition to her staff – her chief of staff.
But Lizzie Is the MVP Of Season 6 For Me
In Season 6, Lizzie (portrayed by Sarah Dugdale) had numerous responsibilities on her hands. Not only was she assisting Hope organize the grand, bird-filled, double chocolate fountain wedding and reception for Mel and Jack that included everyone from the town, but she’s also expecting a baby and dealing with some serious matters related to their upcoming daughter and Denny’s Huntington’s disease.
Indeed! It seems that the immense and swift burden of adult responsibilities might have played a significant role in transforming Lizzie into such an impactful character this season. She’s always had a bit of zest (which I’ll delve deeper into later), but being pregnant, stressed, and rightfully concerned about outliving both her partner and their baby girl… well, Miss Lizzie was truly fed up with it all this season.
In Season 6, Lizzie didn’t have patience for unnecessary complications, and I absolutely adored this aspect of her character! She had a knack for humorously pointing out when things were being needlessly complicated. For instance, take the scene where Hope attempts to alter the town’s drive-in movie selection at the last minute due to Muriel’s potential cancer diagnosis. When Hope explains that they can’t screen “Love Story” because it features a character with cancer, Lizzie expresses annoyance and retorts with something like, “Well, that rules out about a third of all movies!
She openly expresses when people are bothering her or overstepping their bounds with regards to her time. A clear demonstration of this was when Jack and Mel vanished just as they were about to walk down the aisle, causing confusion among all present. When they eventually returned, Jack audaciously requested five more minutes (to shock Mel by wearing his Marine uniform during the ceremony). Lizzie casually agreed, “Sure, why not? We’re an hour behind,” and it wasn’t until she noticed everyone staring at her in astonishment that she softened her tone to a more understanding, “I mean, it’s your special day. Take as much time as you need.
I simply adore Lizzie with an attitude!
Lizzie Came To Virgin River As A Shit-Starter, So It Was Nice To See Her Get A Bit Of An Attitude Again
Initially, Lizzie arrived in Virgin River causing quite a stir. Having been relocated to live with her aunt Connie due to her shoplifting incident, she immediately caught the eye of Brady, who was older. Fortunately for him, he recognized that she was only 19 and ended any attempts she made to pursue a relationship with him.
Later on, she began forming a connection with Ricky (apparently the only other young individual around) and exploited him, causing the good-natured kid to engage in various mischiefs. I appreciated having someone stirring up trouble in town who wasn’t a full-blown murderer, so I was a bit disappointed when her character started to show more kindness after Connie forbade Lizzie and Ricky from meeting. I had no issue with her growing as an individual, but it bothered me that she was now socializing with the elderly in the sewing group, and I yearned to see her still partaking in some youthful activities.
As a devoted fan, I must admit, I felt a pang of disappointment when she discovered she was expecting. However, it appears those fierce maternal instincts have brought forth an authentic Lizzie, reminiscent of the character we initially adored. In truth, this Lizzie is still as unyielding as ever, but now her strength shines brighter than before – a beacon of positivity rather than any form of negativity.
However, Lizzie Is Still Maturing Nicely For Someone So Young And Dealing With So Much
Although numerous viewers criticized the length of Charmaine’s pregnancy, given that the series primarily unfolds in quick succession, it might be surprising to realize that Lizzie is still quite young. In actuality, she likely doesn’t exceed 22 years old. Yet, she’s already grappling with significant life choices such as whether or not to test Denny’s baby for Huntington’s disease and planning their strategy for caring for him as he deteriorates while they raise the child together.
Though Lizzie has regained some of her familiar warmth, it’s clear she’s continuing to grow gracefully. Despite finding some aspects of pregnancy challenging (such as morning sickness and constant hunger when not feeling ill), she promptly chose to keep the baby and is eager about parenthood, acknowledging the hardships that lie ahead.
1) In addition, she has skillfully navigated her relationship with Denny and has mastered certain aspects more swiftly than those who have been in relationships for a longer period. This brings me to my final point.
Lizzie And Denny Might Be My Favorite Couple Now
Absolutely, I’ve made a note of it for everyone to see and I stand by it! At the moment, Lizzie and Denny are almost my top pick among the couples in “Virgin River,” though I realize that opinion might be considered somewhat controversial to fans of Mel and Jack.
As a die-hard film enthusiast, I’ve got to say, Denny and Lizzie are remarkably resilient for their age, given the challenging circumstances that lie ahead. The turbulence in their relationship during Season 6, where Denny was eager to have their daughter tested for Huntington’s disease right away while Lizzie wanted to avoid the subject, was a testament to their complex emotions. Yet, what impressed me most was how swiftly they both expressed and understood each other’s apprehensions about the tough decisions looming on their horizon.
It’s amazing to see some individuals in their 40s and 50s avoid tough conversations with their partners over extended periods or even forever. On the other hand, this couple seems to be tackling all their issues swiftly within just a few weeks. As for the TV series “Virgin River”, I’m curious about how much further it will progress beyond Season 7, but if Lizzie and Denny continue at their pace from Season 6, they’re destined for great things!
The series, titled “Virgin River“, is set to come back with Season 7 at a later time. In the interim, explore the 2025 television schedule and upcoming Netflix movie and TV show premieres for other engaging options to keep you entertained while waiting.
