Every new year serves as a gentle reminder that time continues to move forward relentlessly. Interestingly, movies can echo this sentiment too, since they capture moments frozen in time. They offer us glimpses of actors long gone, or show us how young stars looked when their careers began, and even for those who are still relatively new. It’s hard to believe that Ryan Reynolds‘ co-star in “The Adam Project” has already been 16 years old!
Most people may know Walker Scobell as the lead in Percy Jackson and the Olympians (which is streaming with a Disney+ subscription). It’s hard to believe that his first movie ever hit Netflix less than three years ago with The Adam Project. It was the second movie that paired Ryan Reynolds with director Shawn Levy, and both the star and the director made a point to wish Scobell a happy birthday yesterday when the kid turned 16. Reynolds wrote on Instagram…
Ever since our first encounter, this youngster has always shown remarkable wisdom and maturity. He’s incredibly gifted, showing kindness towards every individual he encounters regardless of the circumstances. @walker.scobell is truly exceptional. On your special day, Happy Birthday! Sending you love. 💗
When The Adam Project hit screens in 2022, it received generally positive feedback from critics, but our review awarded it a respectable 3.5 stars. However, it’s worth noting that this film might not linger long in people’s memories and probably won’t rank high on many Ryan Reynolds fans’ favorite movies list. The plot centers around Reynolds as a time-traveler who unintentionally lands in 2022 and partners with his 12-year-old self for a mission to preserve the future. In the process, he gains a fresh outlook on his own life.
The movie was filmed four years ago, meaning Scobell was all of 12 when he made his debut. It was produced under covid protocols meaning the entire process likely took longer than originally expected and the Scobell has aged a great deal more between then and now than the films release date indicates. Shawn Levy also wished the young actor a happy birthday on Instagram, saying…
Happy Birthday to one of the most talented, grounded, and big hearted kids I’ve ever known.
Both Reynolds and Levy praise Walker Scobell for his down-to-earth demeanor even amidst his swift rise to stardom, as well as his undeniable talent. Notably, many others have recognized this talent too, given that each of the three projects Scobell has been involved in have garnered significant attention. Besides “The Adam Project,” he also appeared in “Secret Headquarters” alongside Owain Wilson, and more recently, he took on the lead role in “Percy Jackson and the Olympians.
The success of Percy Jackson was so immense that a second season of “Percy Jackson and the Olympians” is coming to Disney+. If this series continues as long as the books, it’s possible we will witness Walker Scobell and his fellow actors growing up right in front of us, much like we did with the cast from the Harry Potter films.
