‘Chill Out: Today’s Jenna Bush Hager Shares Why She’s Not In A Rush To Find A Replacement Co-Host For Hoda Kotb

The landscape of morning television will undergo some changes as we move towards 2025, with veteran anchor Hoda Kotb taking a break from her desk duties on the Today Show, along with several other well-known faces who will undoubtedly be missed when she eventually departs. Although that day is fast approaching, Jenna Bush Hager has expressed no immediate plans to start the process of finding a permanent replacement, despite being part of the decision-making process.

It’s not too shocking that Hager has found ways to entertain during her departure, often collaborating with co-anchor Gayle King for a bit of playful trolling and surprising Kotb during filming. They have grown quite close over the years, and when speaking with Variety about her new solo opening for the fourth hour of Today, she acknowledged the challenge of finding someone as exceptional as her fellow Daytime Emmy award-winner to fill her role. In her own words:

I am involved.

Although she’s involved in the decision-making, it doesn’t imply she’s rushing to finalize everything for public consumption. Since her on-screen partner played a crucial role in making the job enjoyable, Hager recognizes that trying to replicate the exact same dynamic is futile, and instead, she aims to find the perfect blend. Moreover, she’s comfortable asking others for patience as she puts it: “I assure you, I’m not in a hurry; let’s find the right mix.

What I enjoyed most about hosting the show was Hoda, to be honest. . . It’s relaxing. I believe our viewers deserve the chance to become acquainted with a wide range of individuals, diverse backgrounds. Our goal is to have a friendly chat with people from all walks of life. I’m confident there will be some unexpected moments. And so, when we find the right ones, I think we’ll know.

In my perspective, there’s no precise definition for “a variety of individuals,” but it seems clear that Jenna Bush Hager is eagerly preparing to step into the guest host role for an extended period. Furthermore, Talia Parkinson-Jones, our executive producer, highlighted a significant point: while some temporary co-anchors might only stay for a single broadcast, others could be with us for as long as a week, and there are some who fall somewhere in between these extremes.

Parkinson-Jones acknowledged Hoda Kotb and stressed that the aim isn’t to replicate her chemistry with Hager, but to discover a comparable dynamic. In her words: “The goal is not to copy her, but to find a parallel.

Hoda is our reigning queen, truly unique in her charm, and I don’t believe anyone could imitate that. In this updated version of the show, it’s all about Jenna’s romantic journey. We get to encounter various individuals along the way, and hopefully, we’ll find love someday. For now, we’re just enjoying the ride.

Given Hager’s persistent use of the “dating” analogy for her lineup of guest hosts, one can’t help but ponder how much further she might extend this concept. This is particularly intriguing given that her first week of co-hosts consists of three highly prominent women. It’s also worth noting that Hager has been married to Henry Chase Hager since 2008.

On January 13, Jenna Bush Hager’s first solo show guest will be Taraji P. Henson, who is also set to appear on Hoda Kotb’s final episode on January 10. For the rest of the week, expect guests like Eva Longoria and Keke Palmer.

Today, take a look as Hoda Kotb is caught off guard in the morning by her Tri Delta sorority sisters making an appearance to mark the start of her last week on Today.

Hoda Kotb, looking forward to 2025, expressed her hopes for a new co-host who would share the same great rapport with Jenna Bush Hager as she and Hager currently do. It’s exciting to see who might join them in the morning as time goes on.
