Star Trek: Lower Decks might have ended officially, but there’s always the possibility of its return. Similar to the original Star Trek and more recently, Prodigy, dedicated fans can breathe life into a canceled show, whether it’s in a new form or continuation. Creator Mike McMahan has hinted that he has numerous ideas for this revival if Paramount+ or other platforms express interest. However, he’s appealing to enthusiastic fans to rally together and help make it happen.
With the 2025 TV lineup excitingly anticipated by fans, particularly the forthcoming “Star Trek” series, Mike McMahan is keen on extending the festivities for “Lower Decks.” While streaming the show via a Paramount+ subscription remains a useful option, the showrunner offers some suggestions for fans eager to witness further escapades with the crew post-finale:
1. Engage in discussions about the show, share your thoughts and theories on social media, forums, or among friends – this not only strengthens the fan community but also catches the attention of creators.
2. Avoid spoilers, as they may tarnish the enjoyment of future episodes for yourself and others who haven’t yet seen them.
3. Support the show by leaving positive reviews on streaming platforms or sharing your enthusiasm with friends, helping to boost its popularity.
4. Be patient, as quality takes time – the creators are working diligently to deliver an exceptional viewing experience.
5. Express creativity by creating fan art, writing fan fiction, or developing cosplay based on the show, which not only entertains fellow fans but also demonstrates your passion for “Lower Decks.”
I’d love to produce more seasons of Lower Decks, create a live-action spinoff, and make large animated movies. I have plenty of ideas for these projects. To increase the chances of this happening, I urge the fandom to express their enthusiasm and joy rather than anger or demands. A show gets picked up because people are excited about it, not because they’re threatening or complaining. If everyone wrote thoughtful letters to Paramount+ or CBS, it could help make a case for more episodes. However, I don’t think that approach is as common these days. If the fandom could demonstrate their support in a positive and respectful way, it would make a much stronger impression than threats. That’s what will get us another season, not the threat of being run over!
Having been immersed in the Star Trek community on social media since its resurgence, I cannot stress enough the validity of Mike McMahan’s perspective on reducing negativity. The cancellation of Star Trek: Discovery and Paramount’s initial reluctance to produce a follow-up for Star Trek: Picard sparked a wave of refusals from fans to engage with new content, primarily because it didn’t meet their expectations. If Mike McMahan suggests that such actions are detrimental rather than beneficial to the franchise, I strongly advise taking his words to heart.
As a devoted fan, I’m thrilled about Star Trek: Lower Decks expanding the universe’s lore by acknowledging multiple realities. This opens up a world of possibilities for new adventures and even the chance to see beloved characters like Jolene Blalock grace our screens once more. Mike McMahan hinted at his eagerness to collaborate with Paramount again, expressing enthusiasm about potential ideas he’s been brainstorming. He also shared some ways fans can assist him in pitching these concepts:
As a movie enthusiast, there’s just no denying my passion for our community. I’m always yearning to contribute even more, and if anyone out there is eager to pitch in, feel free to drop me a line – a simple postcard will do! Let’s keep the excitement alive online, and encourage others to join us. Purchase the DVDs together, engage in discussions, and make our voices heard by those who control the purse strings in the movie industry. In essence, let’s show them what we truly love, so they know exactly what to keep making!
The flow of money in the world plays a significant role, and when people invest in merchandise related to Star Trek: Lower Decks, it demonstrates a demand for additional adventures. Essentially, fan support is crucial in convincing decision-makers that more episodes are necessary, not just a few dedicated fans putting forth the effort. Here’s hoping we all step up and work together to reintroduce this beloved animated series!
2025 is shaping up to be an exciting year for “Star Trek” fans! The much-anticipated “Section 31” film is set to release on January 24th. Additionally, it’s been confirmed that “Strange New Worlds” will air its third season sometime this year. Moreover, the upcoming “Starfleet Academy” series is expected to premiere in 2026. A new “Star Trek” origin movie is also slated for the big screen, although it’s not a continuation of the Kelvin universe. It will be thrilling to have the franchise back on the silver screen again. If this new film proves successful, we might even see a “Lower Decks” movie in the future!
While we wait, let’s keep our hopes high and possibly drop a note to the wonderful team at Paramount+. In the interim, continue enjoying Star Trek: Lower Decks to show our appreciation for the series and aid Mike McMahan in creating more exciting stories.
