Last night at the Golden Globes Awards, Demi Moore made a significant mark by winning the Best Actress – Motion Picture Comedy or Musical award for her performance in Coralie Fargeat’s movie “The Substance”. This was a first major individual recognition for Moore throughout her career. Interestingly, her last solo win was back at the Saturn Awards in 1991 for her role in “Ghost”. A heartwarming video circulating today captures the reactions of Demi’s three daughters to this groundbreaking victory.
In an Instagram post (check it out below), Moore’s daughters Scout, Tallulah, and Rumer Willis are seen watching the Golden Globes with bated breath as their mom’s name is announced by presenter Kerry Washington. The joyous trio cheers exuberantly before emotions take over, with everyone around them sharing in the moment. Additionally, florist Eric Buterbaugh and photographer Amanda de Cadenet are also spotted in the video. The caption merely says “SHE DID IT” accompanied by several weeping emojis, indicating just how elated they were about their mother’s victory.
Last night, I found myself up against some formidable opponents: Amy Adams (Nightbitch), Karla Sofía Gascón (Emilia Pérez), Mikey Madison (Anora), Zendaya (Challengers), and Cynthia Erivo (Wicked). But to my delight, I emerged victorious and was honored with a prestigious award. In my heartfelt acceptance speech, I expressed that this was the first time I’ve ever received any recognition as an actress, which makes this win even more extraordinary for me. Despite doubting I would ever receive such an honor, I am beyond grateful to have been chosen and cherish this moment deeply.
30 years ago, a producer labeled me as a ‘popcorn actress,’ which I took to mean that my career didn’t merit recognition. I accepted this, thinking I could make profitable films but not receive acclaim. This mindset slowly eroded my self-worth to the point where I questioned whether my career was over and if I had fulfilled my purpose.
All Roads Lead To the Academy Awards for Demi Moore
After Meryl Streep won the Golden Globe, the focus shifts to the Academy Awards. While whether she will win an Oscar is less important at this moment, everyone is eagerly waiting for the nominations which will be announced on January 17th. Throughout her over four-decade long career, Meryl Streep hasn’t been nominated for the prestigious trophy, but her role in “The Substance” could potentially change that. If not, it seems like all efforts might be pointless.
I must express my deep admiration for the exceptional performance delivered by Moore in Fargeat’s body horror film. Her portrayal of Elisabeth Sparkle in The Substance was simply outstanding, surpassing many other performances this year, such as those given by Gascón and Madison in Emilia Pérez and Anora. If she is not nominated for an award, it would undeniably be a significant oversight, potentially ranking among the most regrettable instances of injustice in the history of the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences.
If you haven’t already watched it, don’t forget to catch “The Substance” streaming live on Mubi at this moment, or alternatively, rent or buy it from any Video On Demand platform. Look forward to seeing Moore in the upcoming sci-fi comedy adventure titled “I Love Boosters”, now being filmed in Atlanta.
