The next Dexter spinoff is filling in its ranks with familiar faces.
David Zayas, James Remar, and Jack Alcott are set to join Michael C. Hall in “Dexter: Resurrection”, the upcoming installment in the Paramount+ and Showtime franchise due out this coming summer.
Or, more casually:
David Zayas, James Remar, and Jack Alcott have signed on for “Dexter: Resurrection”, the next series in the Paramount+ and Showtime franchise that’s set to debut this summer, alongside Michael C. Hall.
In the upcoming series titled “Dexter: Resurrection“, it is Michael C. Hall who will be reprising his role as the central character, Dexter Morgan, the renowned serial killer from the legendary Showtime series.
In the original ‘Dexter’ series that aired from 2006 to 2013, Zayas portrayed Detective Angel Batista, a friend and colleague of Dexter, while James Remar played Harry Morgan, Dexter’s deceased father. More recently, Alcott stepped into the role of Harrison Morgan, Dexter’s son, in the 2021 revival series titled ‘Dexter: New Blood’.
In the premiere of the ongoing prequel series, “Dexter: Original Sin,” Michael C. Hall reprised his role as Dexter. Previously, it had been announced that Hall would provide narration for “Original Sin,” but it wasn’t until the show debuted in December that viewers of “Dexter” began to grasp how everything would fit together.
In 2022, after eliminating Hall’s character in “New Blood”, producer Clyde Phillips found a way to resurrect him for the series “Original Sin”. Instead of starting with a flashback to follow a young Dexter (played by Patrick Gibson), the prequel opened in the present day, right after the events of “New Blood”. In this continuation, Dexter – who was shot, with his agreement, by his son Harrison (Alcott) in an attempt to halt the killer instinct within their lineage – is miraculously revived by medical professionals.
Phillips, who currently oversees both “Original Sin” and “Resurrection,” previously shared with The Hollywood Reporter that he only had Hall for one year in “New Blood,” which is why he chose the tragic ending at the time. However, when Hall reached out later, asking if there was a possibility of revisiting the character, Phillips found it necessary to devise a means to bring his lead actor back to life.
In the start of the novel “Resurrection“, it’s made clear that if Dexter had been wounded on a warm day, he would not have survived. However, his injury occurred in freezing zero-degree weather with snow. This prevented him from bleeding excessively, enabling them to rescue and revive him, as Phillips elaborated to THR.
He pointed out that all the shows are linked, suggesting that “Resurrection” could essentially be seen as the sequel to “New Blood.
In this version, we encounter the youthful iterations of Batista and Harry Morgan, portrayed by James Martinez and Christian Slater. This spin-off, rich in references to the original show, has been carefully observed by THR, as indicated in our comprehensive list.
