The initial preview for Amy Schumer’s upcoming Netflix film, titled “Kinda Pregnant,” offers a peek into the raucous humor that this Adam Sandler co-production promises. In “Kinda Pregnant,” we follow Lainy (Schumer) as she navigates a tangled web of deceit when envy leads her to don a fake baby bump, only to later encounter the man who captures her heart due to this deception.
This comedy movie produced by Sandler’s Happy Madison Productions features actors like Will Forte, a former cast member from Saturday Night Live, and Jillian Bell, who gained popularity from Workaholics. Additionally, Damon Wayans Jr., Brianne Howey, Alex Moffat, Joel David Moore, Lizze Broadway, Urzila Carlson, and Francis Benhamou are also part of the cast. Tyler Spindel, known for The Out-Laws, The Wrong Missy, and Father of the Year, is the director of Kinda Pregnant, which will be available on Netflix starting Wednesday, February 5.
The initial scene in the fresh trailer showcases Lainy basking in the advantages of being pregnant, as a man throws her an apple and affectionately calls her “mama.” Additionally, she is given a seat on the subway by another passenger who comments on her stunning beauty. In response, Lainy humorously acknowledges her pregnancy status. However, her anxiety surfaces when she ponders, “Have you ever told such a massive lie that you’re unsure of how to escape it?” The trailer also includes several amusing dialogue snippets, such as the question, “How far along are you? Given your facial swelling, I’d guess five months.

Amy Schumer’s “Return to Movies”
Similar to Amy Schumer’s 2015 movie, “Trainwreck”, the film “Kinda Pregnant” aims to emphasize a point that might seem self-evident: the portrayal of women as individuals with their unique experiences and emotions, much like what Schumer expressed to People.
In our culture, women often face pressure to fall short. However, this narrative underscores women as individuals pursuing decisions that align with their personal values and enjoying life’s journey together.
Besides praising her co-star Will Forte, who portrays Lainy’s love interest Josh Lewis, Schumer expressed her delight about developing such a profound trust with him. She stated that it’s an extraordinary experience to become accustomed to kissing someone other than your partner without making a fuss, and fortunately, this was the case here. Furthermore, she noted that Forte is not only incredibly funny but also demonstrates exceptional skills as a romantic lead in this role.
Amy Schumer perceives “Kinda Pregnant” as a comeback to making movies. Lately, she has been involved with projects such as the Hulu series “Life & Beth”, another run of her sketch series “Inside Amy Schumer”, and guest spots on “Only Murders in the Building”, Jerry Seinfeld’s “Unfrosted”, and A24 drama “The Humans”. In 2023, she also released a comedy special, “Emergency Contact”, on Netflix. The film “Kinda Pregnant” represents her first major role in a feature movie in quite some time.
In an interview with Entertainment Weekly, I shared that I had been eagerly anticipating a project that truly resonated with me. To be specific, I found immense joy in working on “The Humans” with A24 in 2021. However, this film feels like my comeback to the big screen because I was waiting for an opportunity where I could express myself effectively.
Julie Paiva teamed up with Amy Schumer to write the script for the film titled “Kinda Pregnant“. Besides Schumer and Adam Sandler, this production also involved Tim Herlihy, Judit Maull, Kevin Grady, Eli Thomas, Molly Sims, and Alex Sak. Barry Bernardi and Michael D. Robins served as executive producers for the project.
Kinda Pregnant hits Netflix on Wednesday, February 5.
