This article reveals plot details for the upcoming season of ‘Squid Game’. To avoid any spoilers, make sure to catch up on all seven episodes if you haven’t already, as they are available exclusively through a Netflix subscription.
If you enjoy the Netflix show “Squid Game,” you’re familiar with the fact that the games depicted are common children’s games. In the series, these contests take a lethal turn. The six-legged race and the subsequent five mini-games in Season 2 kept viewers on the edge of their seats. These games led into a series of challenges that players had to complete within a five-minute time limit to stay alive. Interestingly, some “Squid Game” actors have shared which games they think they could handle and which ones would be difficult for them in real life.
As a dedicated cinema enthusiast, I can’t help but share my thoughts on the nail-biting moments from Season 2 of Squid Game. Particularly in Episodes 4 and 5, when several players were bound, they had to conquer five childish games – scenes that kept viewers at the edge of their seats!
In an interview prior to the release of Squid Game Season 2, actors Yang Dong-geun (Player 007) and Kang Ae-shim (Player 149) were asked about which games they believed they could excel at. Without hesitation, Kang Ae-shim admitted that all those games would pose quite a challenge for her.
It seems I didn’t find any games where I felt really assured about my skills. To some extent, it was like trying to hit a stone – it felt more manageable. However, when it came to the rest of the games, they remained quite difficult for me.
In Korea, the game known as ‘Biseokchigi’, or ‘Hitting the Stone’, was considered the least challenging among the five games featured. Character 149, played by Kang Ae-shim, excelled at this game during gong-gi performances. Interestingly, she admitted that she feels confident only in a game where her character didn’t even participate, which I find amusing because I would have likely panicked in her situation.
In the scene, Yang Dong-geun, her on-screen son, made his character toss the stone. The actor mentioned that among all the games, that was the one he felt most capable of executing – leaving him to ponder if Director 149 had also instructed Yang Dong-geun’s character to hit the stone due to his previous roles.
As a devoted cinephile, I found myself in a unique position during filming – hitting the stone was part of my character’s actions, and surprisingly, it came naturally to me. It could be that Director Hwang had seen me play a pitcher in a past project, which may have given him confidence in my abilities. However, some actors struggled with this task as it was crucial for the shot, but fortunately, I managed to pull it off, eliciting genuine excitement and admiration from my fellow cast members.
It’s quite amusing, really! I found myself pondering about how challenging it must be for them to play multiple games during the broadcast, only to discover that the actors needed to actually make the shot for it to appear on screen. Yang Dong-geun’s joyful response suggests he relished the opportunity to perform well.
To put it simply, any game in Season 2 of this series, such as the six-legged race, Red Light Green Light, or Mingle, would be terrifying to experience in real life given the harrowing situations these characters find themselves in. However, that’s precisely what makes Squid Game an exciting binge-watch on Netflix – it transforms ordinary children’s games into chilling nightmares.
As the third season of Squid Game unfolds, I find myself pondering what new torments we might encounter with the upcoming games. If the actors themselves consider these games challenging, I can only imagine how 007 and 147 will respond. For now, all I can do is bide my time until the 2025 TV schedule reveals more details – but patience has never been my strong suit. In the meantime, I’ll keep myself entertained by exploring other shows similar to Squid Game.
