‘Fantastic Four: First Steps’ Silver Surfer Julia Garner Teases Epic Scope of the MCU Reboot

In the upcoming movie titled “First Steps“, set to hit cinemas this year, the beloved superhero team known as the Fantastic Four makes their grand entrance in the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU). The lineup includes Pedro Pascal portraying Mr. Fantastic, Vanessa Kirby as Susan Storm, Joseph Quinn as Johnny Storm, and Ebon Moss-Bachrach as Ben Grimm. Additionally, this film introduces two significant Marvel villains to the MCU. Ralph Ineson will voice Galactus, a celestial being capable of consuming planets, while Julia Garner, famously known for her role in “Ozark“, takes on the character Shalla-Bal, also recognized as the Silver Surfer. This is the first time that the Silver Surfer will be depicted as Shalla-Bal on the big screen, and Garner eagerly anticipates fans delving into the expansive world of the film.

During a recent chat with ComicBook.com for promotional purposes of her upcoming horror flick, “Wolf Man”, Garner shared thoughts on filming “Fantastic Four: First Steps” last year. When asked about any notable aspects of the production, she pointed out its massive size as being particularly striking.

To put it simply, just consider its size. The universe is vast, and I’m truly thankful for being a tiny piece of this grand scheme, if I may say so myself,” Garner expressed.

‘Fantastic Four’ Fans Are Eagerly Awaiting the First Trailer

Fans eagerly anticipated the Fantastic Four joining the vast Marvel Cinematic Universe roster, but they’ll need to be patient. The upcoming series, titled “First Steps“, is set in a 1960s-inspired alternate timeline, featuring a vibrant, comical sci-fi aesthetic, complete with vivid colors, outlandish costumes, and the period-accurate Fantasticar. According to producer Kevin Feige, fans will be thrilled with the vision brought to life by the cast and director, Matt Shakman, in “First Steps“.

In my opinion, everyone working on this project is doing a fantastic job, particularly with the casting. They’re simply outstanding, and director Matt Shakman is truly impressive. I’m really looking forward to it!

Fans of Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) haven’t had much preview of “Fantastic Four: First Steps”. This film is scheduled for release on July 25, 2025, the same month as James Gunn’s “Superman”, and at present, we’ve mainly seen a painted poster. Filming wrapped up towards the end of 2024, and it’s now in post-production, preparing for its release in July. Some fortunate fans at 2024’s San Diego Comic Con also got a glimpse of the cast’s test footage wearing their costumes, as well as the first glimpse of Galactus in the MCU. However, general audiences haven’t officially seen this test footage yet, although some images have predictably leaked online.

In the upcoming weeks, we’re eagerly anticipating the debut of the first trailer for “Fantastic Four: First Steps”. Even though James Gunn has shared a sneak peek of “Superman”, no specific date or timeframe has been announced yet for the trailer release. Before “First Steps” hits our screens, Marvel Studios will premiere “Captain America: Brave New World” in February. This upcoming Captain America film is part four in the series and focuses on Sam Wilson (Anthony Mackie), who took up the mantle officially in the Disney+ series, “The Falcon and the Winter Soldier”.
