On Wednesday mornings, as fires persistently expanded across the Los Angeles region, numerous local residents expressed their sorrow over the destruction of beloved Malibu restaurants on various social media platforms.
The well-loved seafood restaurant, Reel Inn, situated at the foot of Topanga Canyon Boulevard on Pacific Coast Highway, was apparently consumed by fire. This establishment, which welcomed its first customers in 1986, shared on Instagram last night that their team is safe. “We are deeply appreciative of the 36 years we’ve been a part of this community,” the post read. “Thank you to all our patrons. We are devastated and uncertain about what remains. We can only hope that the state park allows us to rebuild once things calm down.” (Topanga Beach State Park is right across the street.)
Fires initially ignited in Pacific Palisades expanded to affect areas of Malibu and Santa Monica, with the blaze in Palisades remaining uncontained as of Wednesday morning according to the L.A. Fire Department. Meanwhile, three other ongoing wildfires in L.A. County – the Eaton, Hurst, and Woodley fires – are also yet to be contained.
The well-known beachside restaurant, Cholada Thai, situated near Reel Inn, was sadly destroyed, as stated in a post on Instagram from its Long Beach sister establishment. “We are deeply saddened to share that our original Cholada location along the Pacific Coast has been devastated by the Palisades wildfire since it opened in 1999,” the post read. “We express our heartfelt appreciation to all who have shown their support during these challenging times, by tagging us.
On Tuesday, the Rosenthal Winery in Malibu suffered damage as their Pacific Coast Highway tasting room was destroyed by fire. A message on their Instagram account read, “Although we unfortunately lost our tasting room to the fire yesterday, all of our team members are safe.” The wine bar has pledged to keep the public updated regarding their future plans.
It’s been reported that Moonshadows, the well-known establishment that made headlines in 2006 due to an incident involving Mel Gibson under the influence, was destroyed by fire. The restaurant took to Instagram to express their condition, stating “it’s gone,” and offering a heartfelt message: “Thank you for your prayers and wishes. Stay safe and strong everyone.” THR has reached out for official confirmation on this matter.
Currently, more than 37,000 individuals in the Los Angeles region are under evacuation notices due to numerous wildfires. Two fatalities have been confirmed as a result of these fires. On Tuesday evening, California Governor Gavin Newsom announced a state of emergency, urging Southern Californians to “stay alert, take all necessary safety measures, and adhere to local emergency instructions.
