2025’s televised award shows have been quite remarkable. The Golden Globes were particularly noteworthy with Nikki Glaser delivering a stellar performance as host, the unusual reunion between Dwayne Johnson (The Rock) and Vin Diesel, and even Zendaya’s rumored engagement ring making its debut. However, last night at the National Board of Review Awards is what truly stands out for this narrative. This is due to Nicole Kidman downing a glass of milk and Kieran Culkin passing his already-chewed gum to Jesse Eisenberg on stage – incidents you can witness in the video below.
Neither Babygirl nor A Real Pain were included on TopMob’s list of best movies from 2024, but both have made an impact and are contenders for awards. Nicole Kidman’s film Babygirl has sparked many discussions among viewers due to its raw emotions, while A Real Pain, starring Eisenberg and Culkin, has been described as the funniest and saddest movie of 2024 by Riley Utley. As a result, Kidman, Eisenberg, and Culkin are expected to attend many upcoming award shows. However, it remains to be seen if they can surpass their impressive performances at the National Board of Review Awards.
Nicole Kidman Wasted No Time Chugging Her Milk During The Show
Last night at the National Board of Review Awards, the former cast member of “The Perfect Couple” was honored as best actress for her performance in the 2024 film. As a tribute to her character and a memorable scene from the movie, she picked up a glass of milk. She then raised it to acknowledge fellow actresses in the room, affectionately referring to them as ‘babygirls.’ After taking a sip, she drank the entire contents, smiled, and concluded with “good girl” before leaving the stage. Through Babygirl’s and Kidman’s nominations and victories at numerous award events, as well as some of the actress’s eye-catching red carpet appearances such as the backless gown worn at the Globes, this project has garnered quite a bit of attention. Nevertheless, it was the instant she ascended the stage to receive this award and downed a glass of milk that left everyone in awe.
The actress from “Eyes Wide Shut” is widely recognized as an icon, and her dedication in the film only reinforces this notion. Regardless of your opinions on “Babygirl,” you must acknowledge that her performance represents a remarkable level of commitment to the role and the movie. If she had won at the Globes, it would have been fantastic to witness this moment–I certainly would have loved it. Nevertheless, I’m perfectly content with seeing occasional tributes at any award ceremony.
Kieran Culkin Taking Out His Gum And Handing It To Jesse Eisenberg Was Not On My Bingo Card
Macaulay Culkin and Jesse Eisenberg have an unexpectedly chaotic yet fantastic pairing reminiscent of Matt Damon and Ben Affleck’s dynamic for today’s era. Their collaborative and individual press work has been entertaining and further boosted interest in this underrated yet remarkable film. Naturally, they were part of last night’s viral buzz as well.
As Kieran Culkin was about to receive the Best Supporting Actor award for his work in “A Real Pain“, he suddenly became aware that he was still munching on a piece of gum. The actor from “Succession” nonchalantly removed it from his mouth, joking that he didn’t know what to do with it. Just seconds later, Jesse Eisenberg swiftly stepped in to grab the gum from him.
Check out the bizarre moment below:
In my view, this particular scene is slightly disorganized yet charming. It underscores the strong connection shared by the actors, which only adds to the movie’s value. I do hope Culkin learns from this experience and checks for gum before going on stage in future performances. However, I must confess that I found it fascinating to discover the backstory about how he ended up with the gum initially.
Whatever’s happening behind-the-scenes at award shows, I hope it carries on during the upcoming season. It’s the kind of unpredictable fun I love! If Kidman sips a glass of milk on stage and Eisenberg removes Culkin’s gum off stage already, who knows what surprises we have in store? I guess we’ll simply have to stay tuned and find out.
A Real Pain and Babygirl are playing in theaters now and available on select VOD services.
