Billy Crystal, Longtime Pacific Palisades Resident, Responds to Catastrophic Fires in Beloved Town

Billy Crystal and his wife, Janice, have addressed the tragic Pacific Palisades fire that has affected their long-time residence community dating back to the 1970s.

As a gamer, I can’t put into words the immense destruction that’s unfolding around us. My heart goes out to my neighbors who, like me, have lost their homes and livelihoods in this disaster. This place – where Janice and I have lived since 1979 – has been our home, a place filled with love, laughter, and cherished memories that can’t be erased. We’re heart-stricken, but the unwavering support of our children and friends gives us hope. We send our prayers to the brave firefighters and first responders risking their lives for our community. The Pacific Palisades is more than just a place; it’s a strong, resilient community full of incredible people. I believe that in time, we will rise from these ashes, rebuilding our homes and restoring the bonds that make this place our home.

Crystal is a cherished resident of Palisades, and for a while, she held the title of honorary mayor in this city. Eugene Levy, who currently holds the position of honorary mayor in Pacific Palisades, is one of many who have shared heart-wrenching experiences on social media during recent emergency evacuations. James Woods, Mandy Moore, and Diane Warren are among those who have unfortunately lost their homes to the fires. Notable landmarks such as several well-known restaurants in Malibu, Palisades Charter High School, Will Rogers’ historic ranch house, and the historic Topanga Ranch Motel, previously owned by William Randolph Hearst, have all been devastated by the flames.

By 3:30 PM on a Wednesday, the Palisades fire had scorched over 15,832 acres and nearly 1,000 homes. Particularly affected zones encompass the bustling downtown area and numerous businesses lined up on Sunset Boulevard.
