It’s been a while since “Game of Thrones” concluded on HBO, and although enthusiasts are still anticipating the next season of “House of the Dragon,” Netmarble is set to re-immersse fans in the world of Westeros with their forthcoming game titled “Game of Thrones: Kingsroad.
Fresh game trailers have just come out, showcasing both recurring characters and certain gameplay elements.
Game of Thrones: Kingsroad
The latest trailer for “Game of Thrones: Kingsroad” has been released, showcasing brief glimpses of gameplay but mainly highlighting the return of beloved characters such as Jon Snow, Lord Varys, and the tragic pair Jaime and Cersei Lannister.
In “Game of Thrones: Kingsroad,” you’ll set off on a voyage to rebuild your family’s reputation. Along the way, you’ll form partnerships in the face of challenges and treachery, all while navigating a world filled with mystery, peril, and potential rewards. The game’s narrative builds upon the epic TV series, giving you the freedom to carve out your unique destiny amidst the complex power struggles between noble houses and the ominous threat beyond the Wall.
It seems clear that this game doesn’t fall within the main storyline, yet it appears to be set during or near the War of the Five Kings. This timeline implies that Jon Snow has already joined the Night’s Watch on the Wall, and Cersei Lannister is in power at King’s Landing.
The principal character appears to be a unique individual, often referred to as one who hails from the North and is determined to restore the reputation of his family’s house. If you’re familiar with the world of Thrones, you might know that Northerners are famed for their ruggedness and an unyielding sense of honor.
Gameplay Sneak Peek
From my perspective, it seems that the gameplay of Kingsroad is heavily influenced by The Witcher. Not only does it involve engaging combat, but it also offers a wide variety of jobs for players to undertake and intriguing environmental puzzles to solve.
As reported by ComingSoon, the game Kingsroad offers three distinct character classes to select: Sellswords, Knights, and Assassins. Sellswords serve as tank-like characters, proficiently wielding two-handed axes in combat; Knights are regarded as the most versatile class, employing longswords and displaying a refined fighting style; while Assassins are swift and adept at using daggers during battle, also capable of hurling their knives for ranged attacks.
The extent to which the game’s world is open-ended remains uncertain, however, it appears that players will be motivated to traverse different areas and complete various activities scattered across the map. This could involve anything from tackling challenges such as puzzles to accepting tasks posted in the town notice board.
Canon Fodder
Although the game may not strictly follow the established storyline from the official canon, it presents an opportunity for captivating tales featuring familiar characters. As for the future of Kingsroad, it’s uncertain what Netmarble has in store, but given the vastness of the Westeros universe, there is certainly potential for growth and expansion.
The game titled “Game of Thrones: Kingsroad” doesn’t have a confirmed release date as of now, but it is anticipated to debut on PC, Android, and iOS devices later in the year. The preliminary beta testing phase will take place from January 16th to the 22nd; interested players can still register for participation until January 12th.
