Sony’s PlayStation has proven its superiority in the console competition by offering outstanding exclusives such as God of War, The Last of Us, and Horizon Zero Dawn; among their most prestigious franchises is the critically acclaimed Sucker Punch production, Ghost of Tsushima.
As an ardent fan, I’m thrilled to share that the game we all love is preparing for its sequel, titled “Ghost of Yotei.” However, it seems that our journey back to the captivating world of Tsushima might not be until 2027. Here’s to hoping it’ll be worth the wait!
Ghost of Tsushima Anime Announced
At the Sony CES 2025 press conference, as reported by Polygon, it was announced that a new anime adaptation of the game “Ghost of Tsushima” is in the works, with collaboration between PlayStation Productions, Crunchyroll, Aniplex, and Sony Music. The director for this series will be Takanobu Mizuno, who has previously worked on projects like “Star Wars: Visions” and “Batman Ninja”. Studio Kamikaze Douga, known for their work on titles such as “Sand Land” and “Batman Ninja”, will be responsible for the animation. Given this studio’s past work, it is possible that this series could also be produced using Computer-Generated Imagery (CGI).
Prior to fans anticipating a re-telling of Jin Sakai’s narrative, it is confirmed that this anime adaptation will instead be centered around the multiplayer mode of Ghost of Tsushima, titled “Ghost of Tsushima: Legends.” Regarding this partnership, PS Productions head Asad Qizilbash shared his thoughts.
The captivating and immersive environment of ‘Ghost of Tsushima’ and its Legend mode rooted in Japanese folklore make an ideal setting for this venture. Aniplex, with their expertise, seems to be the ideal collaborator to transform Sucker Punch Productions’ successful video game into a visually stunning anime series.
How is GOT: Legends Different?
In contrast to the original Jin Sakai game that revolved around a gritty, realistic narrative about a man crafting his own legend, Legends delves into the mystical elements of traditional Japanese tales and showcases visually striking, surreal imagery, setting it apart from the primary game.
As a devoted admirer, I’d like to highlight an intriguing twist: instead of a single protagonist, the game now separates Jin’s gaming aspects into four distinct character classes – Samurai, Hunter, Ronin, and Assassin. Each of these characters excels in one unique facet of Jin’s skills showcased in the main game.
It’s plausible that the storyline might shift and present a new group of characters, joining forces to confront the mythical beings introduced in the Legends extension.
It’s possible that Jin Sakai might make an appearance in the series, however, his established storyline could create challenges for any storylines being considered for the anime. Alternatively, the series could delve into themes similar to the “Ghost of Yotei.
Ghost of Yotei
Apart from the impending anime, Sucker Punch is at present gearing up for the release of their eagerly awaited follow-up titled “Ghost of Yotei“.
In the upcoming story, although Jin Sakai won’t make an appearance, his legend persists, with rumors suggesting that the next main character will emulate Jin’s methods to establish her own legend within a fresh backdrop. As swords (katanas) are anticipated for combat in the game, players are excited about potential new weapons and battle styles this time around.
In contrast, while we anticipate the release of the Ghost of Tsushima anime in 2027, the Ghost of Yotei game is slated to debut on PlayStation 5 as early as this year.
