Ahmed Alameen, both writer and filmmaker, is set to debut his first point-and-click adventure game towards the end of this year titled “My Father Lied.” This independent project serves as Alameen’s initial work and blends a captivating narrative with intricate point-and-click puzzles. Drawing inspiration from ancient Mesopotamian history, this game promises an immersive experience for players.
In this captivating adventure, I find myself stepping into the shoes of Huda, a determined young woman on a quest to unravel the mystery surrounding my father’s long-lost whereabouts. Twenty years have passed since he vanished, but a startling revelation – that I have an unknown brother whom my father never mentioned – reignites my investigation and fuels my determination to discover the truth about his strange disappearance.
Initially, Alameen collaborated on the project with a fellow student from college. In this collaboration, Alameen served as the storyline designer. But when the team disbanded, he chose to educate himself further in game design so that he could complete the project independently.
In this game, you’ll navigate your way through by employing point-and-click mechanics to traverse the world and unravel one puzzle after another. You’ll be piecing together images, cracking codes, and encountering various challenges, all while immersing yourself in breathtakingly eerie settings. Alameen likens My Father Lied to a blend of Myst, Heaven’s Vault, and the literary masterpieces of H.P. Lovecraft.
Instead of painstakingly detailing every element in the environment, Alameen opted for a more imaginative strategy. The game featured both 2D and 360-degree images across all scenes, even the cutscenes which were carefully handcrafted one frame at a time. This method, according to the lone developer, ensures top-notch graphics that can be run smoothly on less powerful computers.
Starting May 30th, you’ll be able to purchase “My Father Lied” on the App Store, Google Play, and Steam for PC at a price of $10.99 or €10.99. At this moment, you can add it to your Steam Wishlist but it’s not yet available for pre-registration on mobile. To learn more about “My Father Lied,” follow Lunar Games on X (platform), Discord, TikTok, or Instagram. Also, watch out for the forthcoming Kickstarter campaign if this game intrigues you.
