Hiroshi Fujiwara Reveals a fragment design x Nike Air Force 1 Low/Air Presto Sample

For approximately two decades, Fragment Design and Nike have been collaborating, resulting in numerous sneaker designs. However, there are also several projects that didn’t progress beyond the prototype stage. In a recent interview for QUIET #7, Hiroshi Fujiwara, the founder of Fragment Design, disclosed one such model – an unprecedented Air Force 1 Low collaboration with design elements inspired by the Air Presto.

As I gaze upon this game-ready sneaker, it boasts a unique deconstructed essence, with supple leather adornments perched atop a neoprene foundation reminiscent of the Air Presto. Unlike common low-top Air Force 1s, the neoprene is slightly elevated. The leather heel overlay, deviating from the norm, isn’t stitched to the base but rather hangs loosely, offering a breathable space for the midfoot Swoosh that’s heat-applied.

Additional details include laces resembling hiking boots and speckled with reflective elements. The sole is two-toned. Three colorways were displayed: primarily black, a mix of black and white, and navy with white accents.

According to Fujiwara, he had an idea about linking the midsole of the tested model straight to its upper, but it seems challenging. Nevertheless, he found the first sample comfortable and well-constructed. He believes with some experimentation, he could improve it further, though that’s for a future endeavor.

Although these shoes aren’t planned for retail sale, take a look at them in the image provided. Notably, fragment design has recently collaborated with Nike to produce two versions of the Air Zoom Spiridon.
